Thinking of either a BFR or Freedom Arms 83

I saw on the website that the BFR top strap is drilled for a weaver scope base. Is the FA drilled for a scope base as well? Do you have to remove the open sights to mount a scope?

I did not read what the factory grip panels are made of on the BFR. Are they comfortable? I saw that one can order black micarta grip panels from MRI. Will MRI fit those grip panels at the factory?

I don't know if they still have there custom shop or not but you could order grips and octagon barrels or whatever at one time

I had the stock 454 BFR and it shot excellent,you do have to remove the rear sight to install the base and the grip is black rubber.I did prefer the 475 Linebaugh BFR.

I doubt that you can go wrong with either one. You can have two grip options with the BFR. Before I type this in, let me say I would not give up my Freedom Arms revolvers. The BFR is one helluva revolver and has many options available at less cost. Again you would be well armed with either one!

I very much like the look of the micarta grips. For those who have shot with both the rubber and micarta grips, what are the advantages or disadvantages of both types?

Both are very awesome. I feel fa are the best revolvers fit and finish wise. The bfr does have some advantages like its price which includes the scope base. You can also carry 5 rounds in the cylinder. You also have a longer cylinder which gives more leeway should you have bullet pull issues. If you can afford a fa you will not regret it. That said if you get a bfr it will give you a lifetime of service and really do everything a fa will do except really be a fa if that matters. The bisley grip frame is great but you do have a choice and the rear sight is great and much improved over previous versions. The fa has the best front sight and the available millet rear is the best iron sight is the best in existence imho.
