Called Savage Arms again today about the broken retaining pin and was informed they will not repair or work on my pistol.Savage sold the company and does not have schematics for this gun or a parts list and the gunsmiths will not work on it.Seems a damn shame when a company will not stand behind or work on there own products. The tech said the [New Savage] did not produce this gun so they would not repair it.Don't see any more Savage anythings in my future.
Seems I will have to pull the barrel and bolt assembly screw and tap the whole mess out the front of the receiver. Hopefully not scoring the bolt or receiver in the process.

That is terrible from savage! Good way to begin the ruin of a good name.

No local gunsmith that can help out?

None that I trust.A friend has the tools for Savage guns including go, no go gauges and I already have a replacement retaining pin so will probably go that route.

Pain in the butt! Guess that answers my question about ever buying a Savage firearm.
wrt the broken pin, Any idea why this has happened to you twice? Almost sounds like something else is wrong and causing this failure.

Can't say as I blame you. I have a Striker as well but haven't ever had the issue you have. Much less more than once.

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

I hadn't heard of any change of ownership. Explains why I can no longer access the parts finder section of their website. I had put it down to the typical US attitude of not supporting overseas customers.

I have two Savage rifles. Both shoot with excellent accuracy but need ejectors replaced. Doesn't look like factory parts are going to be available. If that's the case I don't think I'd recommend anyone to buy Savage again.

Savage was bought by ATK, the same company that owns Alliant Powder,Federal ammo, and Bushnell.
I bought one of their rifles in 6.5 Creedmoor last year and it has the worst barrel I have ever seen on a new rifle, deep reamer chatter the full length of the barrel as well as pitting.

Best of luck getting it up and running. These big companys don't seem to have much of a problem blowing off customers look at what Remington did to the Marlin 336.

Most of the big gun companies now are all about profit and damn the little man who may only be able to afford one or two guns....
Quality goes down and the price goes up.

thats odd, the purchase was over thee years ago at this point. i called about some safety parts for my muzzle loader last year. they would not sell them to me unless i was a gunsmith so I asked them what they thought about a working ML-II being used without a working safety. they said we will send over a release form, fill it out and send it back then they shipped the parts. ive used the parts finder withing the last year as well with now issues. I would try it again or there is a guy here in ny (i know not everyone's favorite state) Dark Eagle Customs that builds sagave mags and parts. he might be able to help as well
