I'm looking to have Jack Huntington do some work on my X-frame, but I've never shipped a firearm anywhere. How should I go about doing it?

Are you cozy with an FFL holder? FFL's can mail handguns, but you would have to overnight it through UPS or FedEx. A flat rate USPS Priority box costs about $12 to mail. My dealer will ship a handgun for me for $20, including postage. Depending on how far it has to go it can cost 4 times that for an individual to ship through a common carrier.

Check with your local dealer. My dealer shipped mine for $25.00 and put insurance on it.

The time I moved back to the lower 48 I shipped mine from FFL to FFL.
Only thing I had to pay for was the shipping which was overnight. Maybe around $25.oo If memory serves me correct.

I shipped my pistol to him a couple of months ago. He gave me all the instruction and it was easy. I wish that I could remember the exact instructions but there was nothing to it. Good luck

Doesn't have to be overnight. Second day is accepted as well, and a lot cheaper! I use UPS. NEVER USPS. They lose their ever loving mind here, unless you are the local gun store guy.

Update. An employee at my local store said they could ship it, but the boss said no. So, I went to the newly opened UPS store in my town and asked them. They didn't think they'd be able to ship a handgun, but after a call to one of their higher ups who was more knowledgeable, they shipped it for me. The tracking number says it'll be there tomorrow.

Has to be shipped from an actual UPS or FedEx hub, not a store, print shop or mailbox store. Next Day Saver is the best you can hope for cost-wise and it will still average $100 or more. Luckily, I'm only 10mins from the local UPS hub and the folks there don't have a hissy fit when I bring in a firearm to ship.

You can also request carrier pickup and not worry about anyone having a fuss over it.
