GUYS, I NEED SOME HELP: I HAVE A RUGER OM BLACKHAWK CONVERSION TO 25-20 BY BOWEN, A WONDERFUL GUN THAT I SOMETIMES USE AS A PORCH GUN AT MY RANCH. I HAD MADE A VOW TO QUIT BUYING GUNS (I MOSTLY BUY REVOLVERS) BUT I FOUND A COLT DA REVOLVER ON GUNBROKER IN 25-20. TURNS OUT IT IS A 1959 PYTHON WITH A CUSTOM BARREL, SANS UNDERLUG, WITH AN ADD ON VENT RIB. THE CYLINDER LOOKS TO HAVE BEEN A 22 CALIBER CYLINDER THAT WAS REAMED OUT TO 25-20. THE CYLINDER IS A TAD LONGER THAT A POST WAR COLT OFFICIAL POLICE 22 LR CYLINDER. NO MARKINGS THAT I CAN FIND ANYWHERE ON THE GUN OTHER THAN THE SERIAL #. JUST FUNCTION TESTED THE REVOLVER AND IT WORKS FINE. NOBODY IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WUD DO THIS TO A PYTHON IN RECENT MEMORY SO I FIGURE THE CUSTOM WORK DATES TO THE 1960's. THE GUN CAME OUT OF IDAHO. ANYBODY KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT THIS GUN?

Colt had the "Lawman" 357 Magnum revolver, the immediate predecessor to the Python. Had the lockwork, hammer, etc. that was used for/in the Python. The barrels were straight taper, no underlug. Perhaps that is what the initial gun was.

DOC: SERIAL # MAKES IT A 1955 TROOPER OR A 1959 PYTHON, IT HAS A FRAME MOUNTED FIRING PIN ALA PYTHONS AND BACK THEN TROOPERS HAD HAMMER MOUNTED FIRING PINS, PLUS NO MARKINGS ON BARREL, i.e. NOT A FACTORY BARREL, PLUS LOOKS LIKE A PYTHON FRAME TO ME. "IF GUNS COULD SPEAK" APPLIES HERE, HOW I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW WHO HAD THIS CONVERSION DONE BY WHO AND WHEN.

45M, Never seen a 25-20 Python but many years ago knew of a gunsmith who did a 41 mag conversion. The photo may be one of his guns. I still have his paperwork around somewhere if I can find it as I was going to have the 41 work done on mine....Below the 41 pic are experimental factory Colt Single Actions in 256 Win Mag., 44 Mag,41 mag and 44 Spec. Thought it would be interesting for you guys to know Colt was almost there... The closest I`ll ever get to these guns is an auction catalog but I love seeing and learning about these handguns....

Colt was going to introduce the 256 Win Mag chambering in four different models of their handguns. The photos show original Colt paperwork announcing the handguns... They must have experienced set back problems as these handguns never got beyond the experimental stage. The Single Action in 256WM pictured above must be one of the guns....
