Is anyone hunting or shooting the 356GNR? Thinking serious about building one on a Ruger GP100

ML, Had a 356GRN chambered in a double action S&W model 27... By the time the velocities reached factory 357 levels I experienced case set back.... If I were to do it over I would have the round chambered in a Ruger single action or buy a Freedom Arms model 83 in 357. I was running 180gr bullets over 1700+fps from the FA`s....Good luck

ML, Your very welcome.....Its a good round but I feel to get the velocity its capable of, the single action is the way to go... The old gun writer Paco Kelly used a 356GRN chambered in a Ruger single action and loaded with 180 gr. cast bullets to drop some nasty range bulls... He was pleased...

Rey, Got a load from a guy in the mid west using 180XTP and Blue Dot... just have to locate... got it...
180XTP in bottom crimp
7 1/2 Rem. small rifle primers
15.0grs Blue Dot
new brass

Shot a four horn ram on point of shoulder about 40yds and flipped him over on his back....
You have any 180gr Partitions??? Still have 22 rounds from my FA 357....

PS-THIS IS A MAX load for FA`s model 83 SA`s only....do not be tempted to use in standard 357 as 9.3grs is listed max for 180

Rey, Have to go through the FACA journals to locate JT`s reload data for Model 83 in 357.... He has some "piss in the wind" handloads....

Mouflon and four horn taken with 180XTP handload... The four horn was flipped on his back from 180XTP hitting shoulder about 40yds. Talked with Bob Baker and he suggested the 180 Partition that were still in production at the time....

Rey,
I'm not sure where the crimp groove is on an A-Frame compared to a Partition so.....this load may vary one way or another: 180 Partition over 19.0 gr of H110 lit with a cci small mag rifle primer. From my experience, this is all you can get in the case before it'll start to buckle. This load combo strikes like lightening!

As James previously mentioned - THIS LOAD IS FOR M83 ONLY!

Kim, 19.2grs of 110 was listed by JT for 1700fps with 180 XTP from m-83-353.... I believe he said that the used shell was only good for 38 spec loads because the pressure enlarges primer pockets.....

Just saw this -- I was surprised to hear of shell sticking
I have a .41 GNR and a .410 both in Redhawks-- never a hick up
I know of a number of the .356 GNRs in 6 guns--no problems
-- sorry you had trouble --
A Freedom arms can really free your chosen caliber to perform over and above what is expected
