Posted this over in another topic, thought I'd include it here for the holster. Most of us in rural law enforcement during the 70's, 80's and 90's had a local saddlemaker friend that would as a favor turn out some pretty decent holsters. Mine was Jack Raspberry of Pawhuska. This belt and holster Jack put together for me in the late 80's.

James,

You've about cornered the market on fine and rare leather holsters. I think that's the first TLA holster I've ever seen.

I tried to order a TLA but submitted my order too late. They had just made the decision to stop taking orders when I sent mine in. I keep hoping one will come my way some day.

FANCY "BBQ" RIG, FLORAL CARVED, WITH MATCHING KNIFE SCABBARD, KNIFE OR TOOL POUCH, 44/45 6 ROUND AMMO SLIDES AND HOLSTER, AND GOLD AND SILVER HARDWARE. LEATHER WAS DONE BY LAWMAN TITO PENA, WHO LEARNED THE CRAFT FROM HIS FATHER. KNIFE HAS IVORY MICRATA SCALES. THE REVOLVER IS A S&W MODEL OF 1989 IN 45 COLT, WITH STABILIZED ELK STAG GRIPS WITH S&W MEDALLIONS. THE GOLD AND SILVER BUCKLE, etc. WAS A GIFT FROM A FRIEND BACK WHEN MORTALS COULD AFFORD SUCH THINGS. WORE THIS RIG ON OCASSION AT THE YO HANDGUN HUNTS BUT NOT SINCE (WILL BE REMEDYING THAT SOON). PERFECT RIG TO WEAR IF YOU ARE EVER "SHERIFF FOR A DAY". HOLSTER IS OF "POUCH" DESIGN, i.e. IT WILL ACCOMODATE N-FRAMES, REDHAWKS, BLACKHAWKS AND COLT SAA's WITH UP TO 5 1/2 INCH BARRELS.

Mike Barranti just sent me this picture yesterday of one he just finished for my wife's 637 2 inch S&W 38 Special. A little cross draw rig just like she asked for. I'm not sure how her purple grips are going to look in that classy holster but it's her rig.

S.D. MYRES (1871 - 1952) ORIGINATED AND/OR POPULARIZED THE JOCKSTRAP HOLSTER. HE STARTED OUT IN SWEETWATER, TEXAS THEN MOVED TO EL PASO, TEXAS, WHERE HIS HOLSTER/SADDLE COMPANY REMAINED IN BUSINESS UNTIL THE COMPANY CLOSED IN 1969.

THE FIRST 2 PICTURES ARE MYRES JOCKSTRAP HOLSTERS, THE 1st 1 IS HOLSTERING A 5 INCH S&W MODEL OF 1989 IN 45 COLT (I HAVE BEEN USING THIS COMBO A LOT LATELY), WHILE THE 2nd IS HOLSTERING A 6 INCH S&W MODEL 53 JET REVOLVER WITH A K-HORNET CYLINDER. NEITHER OF THESE HOLSTERS HAVE A RETENTION DEVICE (STRAP OR THONG) AND RELY ON A CANT AND WORKMANSHIP TO KEEP THE GUNS IN. THE 3rd ONE IS A LAWRENCE JOCKSTRAP HOLSTER, HOLSTERING A 6 INCH COLT OFFICIAL POLICE, AND THE 4th ONE IS AN EL PASO SADDLERY "SWEETWATER" JOCKSTRAP HOLSTER, HOLSTERING A 6 1/2 INCH S&W MODEL 25 CLASSIC. ALL 4 GUNS HAVE STABILIZED ELK STAG GRIPS WITH APPROPRIATE FACTORY MEDALLIONS.

HERE IS A PHOTO OF A MODIFIED S&W BRAND HOLSTER FOR MY 5 1/2 INCH SS RUGER BISLEY IN 45 COLT. I HAD THE HOLSTER MODIFIED TO FIT A WIDER BELT AND TO REMOVE SOME LEATHER AROUND THE REAR SIGHT. I WAS HAVING ISSUES WITH HOLSTERS DEPRESSING THE REAR SIGHT JUST ENUFF SO THAT THE ELEVATION SCREW COULD ROTATE (A BOWEN ROUGH COUNTRY REAR SIGHT IS ON MY "GET" LIST FOR THIS REVOLVER). JRH CUSTOMIZED THIS REVOLVER FOR ME INCLUDING FITTING A 44 MAG CYLINDER REAMED OUT TO TIGHT 45 COLT DIMENSIONS. AN AWESOME GUN, PROBABLY MY MOST USED AND CARRIED BELT GUN. SOME GUNS WE SHOOT BETTER THAN OTHERS AND THIS IS 1 OF MY TOP GUNS.

HERE IS A REAL CLASSIC, THE EL PASO SADDLERY 1930 "AUSTIN" HOLSTER, GOOD LOOKS AND A GREAT CARRY HOLSTER. THE GUN IS A S&W 5 INCH MODEL 27. AS I RECALL, SKEETER SKELTON'S FAVORITE REVOLVER WAS A 5 INCH MODEL 27. WHEN I AM NOT CARRYING A 45 COLT MORE LIKELY THAN NOT THAT I WILL BE CARRYING THIS REVOLVER, I SHOOT IT WELL, AND IT IS VERY ACCURATE. I USE CAST BULLETS IN IT BUT ALAS, EXPERIENCE HAS SHOWN ME THAT THERE ARE FAR BETTER CHOICES IF YOU MAY WISH TO USE YOUR BELT GUN ON DEER.

Fresh out of the box new holsters are pretty no doubt. But its when they start to get that look that glow, scratch, and patina from good honest wear that they really shine. Then they have story's to tell! Beautiful rigs guys.

ON 9/1/17 I ORDERED MY BARRANTI EK No. 5 FOR USE WITH 5 1/2 INCH RUGER BISLEYS. I GOT IT ON 2/16/18. MINE IS # 30 AND IS SERIALIZED EK30. DOC MADE MINE AND ANOTHER EK No. 5, THAT HAD BEEN ON ORDER SINCE MAY OF 2017, AT THE SAME TIME. THE FIRST PICTURE SHOWS IT AS RECEIVED, THE NEXT 2 PICTURES SHOW IT AFTER I APPLIED A GENEROUS TREATMENT OF PECARD's ANTIQUE LEATHER DRESSING. THE FIRST PICTURE SHOWS IT HOLSTERING MY 5 1/2 INCH SS JRH CUSTOMIZED 45 COLT BISLEY AND THE SECOND PICTURE SHOWS IT HOLSTERING A BOWEN PERFECTED BLUE BISLEY IN 45 COLT, BOTH WITH HIGH FRONT SIGHTS. BOTH GUNS FIT WELL IN THE HOLSTER AND THERE IS NO REAR SIGHT DEPRESSION, i.e. IT IS CUT RIGHT FOR ADUSTABLE SIGHTS. IT IS A TIGHT FIT ON MY 2 1/2 INCH WIDE EL PASO ROUGHOUT MONEY BELT BUT A NO GO ON A SLIGHTLY WIDER BELT. THE FLORAL CARVING IS OF THE "EXTRA FANCY" TYPE. A REALLY NICE LOOKING HOLSTER. PRESENT INTENTIONS ARE TO USE IT, BUT SPARINGLY, IT IS TOO NICE TO USE AS AN EVERYDAY HOLSTER.

A LAWRENCE FLORAL CARVED HOLSTER FOR A 3 1/2 INCH N FRAME JUST SOLD FOR $536.50 ON EBAY. TWO BIDDERS WENT AT IT FROM ABOUT THE $150 MARK ON, WHERE THEY LEFT ME SUCKING WIND AND EATING DUST. SURE WAS A NICE HOLSTER BUT $536.50???????????

"ADAPT OR DIE". I USE ALL CAPS, NOT BECAUSE I AM YELLING, BUT BECAUSE IT IS AN OLD HABIT FROM MY ARMY DAYS, PLUS IT IS EASIER TO TYPE AND READ.
