Funny. I saw this years ago in trauma surgery. Pointed it out to jeering forum posters a long time ago on other forums. Thats exactly what happens!

My idea of stopping power is based on post mortem examination and the damage done to the vitals and depending on where ya hit, what kind of reaction ya get when big support structures are hit on large game.

Very interesting, and makes good sense.
I have wondered about this issue for years. Shoot some animals and they drop as if hit by lightning, and the next runs off 100 yards on an identical shot. I put a textbook broadside 100 yard shot on a 10 point deer years ago with an Ackley Improved 257 Roberts. The deer stood in place for several seconds just looking around then lunged and went down. I thought I had hit something unseen, and missed him.

maybe? as good an reason as any other, yet i remain unconvinced. i dont trust science or their " scientifically controlled research". all too often science will have a opinion and adjust the data/model to confirm the opinion. SEE: man has only been in the new world 10-12 thousand years, lead shot poisoning waterfowl, second hand smoke, global warming,we are going to run out of fossil fuel by the year 2000(ops missed that one), cranberry sauce causes cancer ( no i didn't make that one up)......... i think some animals just have more of a will to live or maybe just dumber than other and dont know enough to die when heart and lung are mush.

I have conducted killing power test for over 40 years and I have found that if a bullet penetrates through the heart lung area of a deer with any kind of expansion (if it is an expanding bullet) and if it is bigger than .30 caliber if it is a cast bullet with a flat nose it will kill the deer 100% of the time. If the bullet leaves a good exit hole where the deer can leave a good blood trail you will almost always FIND the deer that you killed..Deer hit in the heart lung area may fall on their nose or run 200 yards but they will die. Gut shot deer or deer hit in non-vital areas are unlikely to be recovered when hit with ANY caliber gun. And that is all I got to say about that! LOL!

Ol' James from Jersey has obviously figured out how to time a hog's heart beat! Maybe he'll let us in on the secret.

Lol I thought it was interesting but im not completely convinced either... Wouldn't you think that a 150 grain 30 cal bullet out of an ultramag through the heart would accomplish this every time regardless of when the heart beats? Still its good to see some real attempt at seeing what's going on.

Nope. Its the pressure wave that has to carry to and then burst bLood vessels in the brain. Its not everytime even when its perfect but that is how it happens. Well documented in trauma medical literature.

Timing is everything I know an animal that just exhaled goes down faster on a lung shot than one that just inhaled
