I watched Dur drop this Corsican at an even 50 yards using factory ammo loaded with the Barnes 140 gr. bullet from his 357.... The ram never moved a muscle after the shot.... Barnes bullets have increased the effectiveness of calibers that were once considered marginal....

What a cool hunt! I've never seen an animal drop any faster!!! This shot made me a believer in Barnes bullets, plus, Dur is a great shot.

The barnes are just destructive bullets. Do not be put off by old school bullet weight expectations.

I learned last year how effective the TTSX is out of my 15" Encore in 7-08. I've seldom seen shock and damage like that out of much larger calibers. Now I need to try some out of my Casull.

Good on ya, Dur. That is a fine specimen there.

Does anyone have data for this bullet in 357 using H110 or lil gun?

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

I would. That 250 xbp is devastating!

I went to pick up a box today at BPS but all they had was .458.......
So I picked up another box of XTP Mags because I was down to 4. I'll get a box of the XPB yet!

They are destructive. They leave a great wound channel, don't come apart on bones or waste energy coming apart. They penetrate very well given their higher then typical velocities and energy conservation. I have found that they confine their damage to the wound channel and are not "explosive," so there is very little wasted meat with a lung/heart shot if you stay off the shoulder.

One tid bit I learned on testing Xs on the local deer is that those of 6.5mm and SMALLER do not perform well in our handguns. They rarely, if ever, open up and act more like solids. I'm sure this is a function of velocity in our shorter barrels plus very tiny openings in the small caliber Xs.
Xs of .270 cal. and above have performed exactly like the should all the way up to .416 (.416 Taylor-massive exits and internal damage).
I have not seen this problem in any of the revolvers Xs I've tried up to .500.

When I had my Bullberry 15" 260 Encore I took a couple of Muley bucks using the X bullets & they worked fine but I can't remember if I used the 120's or a 100 gr. Not sure if they even made a 100 gr. but I know they worked just fine but these Muley bucks would have been quite a few pounds bigger than those crop damage deer Larry is referring to I would imagine. Plus, two deer isn't a big example compared to his rather large number!!
Refresh my memory Doc, how many deer now 15-20 maybe.....

Dick

Dick & James, I go crazy testing bullets on my deer. After I shoot a few and don't like the bullet, I wait a year and start all over again. Probably did around 30 with the 120X. I gave it a fair chance. Just didn't work for me.
My farmers were not cooperative this year. Only have 20 so far. A very poor year.
Lots of deer seasons left.

It was really cold for us Carolinians, that it until James started heating things up with that 41 on the local swine population!

The diminutive 140 gr XPB sealed my confidence in the bullet that day, flattening that Mouflon like a target at the fair. Since then, it has been used effectively on both hogs and deer alike.

And like Trad, I've been super impressed with the 250 XPB. Wrecked this big boy last December
