Hello there,

I have a seven and a half inch, 454 Casull in a Freedom Arms that Ive had for 30 years and I find myself not shooting it that much cause it has a bit more recoil than I really like. Ive often wondered about putting a brake on it but haven't been quite able to convince myself to do so. On my rifles I always take the brakes off them cause I don't like all the extra noise and blast.
If you were going to do a brake on my gun who would I send it to and or, what type of brake would you recommend. It would lengthen my barrel but Im ok with that. My purpose of having one installed would not be so much reducing barrel flip but reducing some felt recoil.
I can deal with the recoil but I love my 41's...

Best, Billy
.

SSK can install an Arrestor brake. They work really well.

Me too.

It takes 43 muscles to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger squeeze.

I finally put an Arrestor brake on my 358JDJ. Wish I had done it sooner, def makes a difference. Another option may be having your FA magnaported. I have a 7.5 454 and the magnaport tames it down

Bigger ain't always better....according to who???

Chaser, So many years after buying my FA`s 454, I injured my right wrist and the recoil from the 454 was causing it to swell back up.. Sent the gun to Magnaport for their brake which has cut down the kick to a manageable level to where I`ve never again had a problem with my wrist... Even shooting 360 gr Corbon Penetrators... Another plus is that the brake is the same diameter as the barrel for a streamlined look.... The barrel length on my 454 was also 7 1/2" to which Magnaport removes the front sight base and solders it a 1/2" further back on the barrel, threading the first 1/2" of it to screw the brake on. The brake itself is 2" long so when it is screwed on the threaded barrel the length of the barrel becomes 9".... They include a knurled thread protector so at any time you can remove the brake and shoot the gun without damage to the threads..... Whatever your decision I wish you the best...............

James, I like the looks of that. Maybe I should buy another Freedom Arms, just to have a Magnaport or SSK brake installed. I've been wanting a new one for a while.

Chaser,
Mag-na-port works, but a muzzle brake will work even better.
I have never braked a 454, so I have nothing to compare it with.
I have shot 2 454's: One Mag-Na-Ported and the other one plain.
Mag-Na-Port does help muzzle flip more, but a brake will help more overall.
How Much? Don't know.
A good brake will have baffles (partitions that section the brake), not just holes or side ports.
I use a lot of good muzzle brakes

I am not recommending this brake, grabbed it off the web, but it will show the baffles/partitions I am speaking about.
Good brakes, even the ones with holes all the way around, SHOULD have baffles in them (even if you can't see them easily).
A brake with just holes in it only, will not be as effective.

MM, That`s why I said Magnaport`s MUZZLE BRAKE is the same diameter as the Fa`s barrel.... Thats spelled MUZZLE BRAKE.... and it WORKS for OUR purpose without the bulge of other makes;)

I have a Magnaport Magnabrake on a 7.5" BFR. I asked for a thread cover to be able to use it either way. There is a slight change in zero so check it out before hunting with and without. Wonderful option to a nice revolver. MK
