spinsail, Zee has good info. He kills a lot of deer and hogs with a variety of weapons, and almost every time, documents how the bullet worked in that particular situation with pics and descriptions.

I'm leaving for Bass Pro Shops in about an hour to get components. Its 25 miles away but nothing closer with any real reloading inventory.
I hope to find those Sierra HPBT that Zee uses. I'm using that load he posted as one of my first to test.
I love working up loads for a new firearm.
When my wife sees I bought another handgun I'm going to blame all you guys.

Remember, my load is a guideline.
Measure your own chamber length to get your Base to Ogive Length. I don't seat far off the lands at all. About .005"-.010" depending on the bullet.
I'd hate you to use my load length and cram a bullet into your lands.

I know I am late to this party, but I also have the CVA .243, and it is one hell of a performer for the price... heck, it is a great performer even if it was twice the price.
Long story short- it's now one of my 'go-to' hunting guns. I've drilled several deer with it, from anywhere from 60-130 yards. I have also connected with an 8" target at 425 yards. You made a good choice
I have a weaver 2-7x scope on mine. Use the same bullets that zee recommends

I have 2 CVA pistols so far. The first a 50 muzzle loader and the second a 357 I had rechambered to 357 Maximum. You will like the 243 a lot. Every CVA that I have handled has had a Great Trigger. You can let the hammer down, and then recock without the need of breaking the action open. (Big Improvement Over the Contender Design) The Bulgara Barrels get glowing reports for accuracy.
My recommendation is to order a Grovtec GTHM-49 10-32 Sling Stud from Midway to mount a bipod on the forend. The CVA comes with a screw in stud that leaves a lot to be desired. The Grovtec is a bolt with a nut. I would add lots of epoxy putty around the nut after installation.
With the Bipod you will want a rear sand bag. I like the Brick shape in a 2" X 3" X 4" size for work off a bench. From a Tree Stand with a shelf you might need a taller bag. With a Bipod and Bags you can make the 243 Scout shoot like a rifle.
I also ordered EGW scope bases for both of mine. A must if you plan to use more that 2 rings on the Scout.
Pistol Scopes: Check out the Field of View at 100 yards before making a decision. If you do the research my guess is you will go with either a Burris, or a Leupold. You will like the Plex Reticle on the Burris 2-7. It has hold over hash marks under the Cross Hairs center. Lots of field of view means easier to find your target in the scope. Important to me in a hunting environment. One more thing, the New 2-7 Burris Plex that I have is clear as a bell. If you can make out a deer with your eyes in low light, you can get on it with the scope.
If you are a deer hunter only, and you will not be shooting over 200 yards, you might also consider a 30mm MatchDot II. I am more comfortable with a Dot at under 150 yards, however with a 243 you can probably extend your absolute maximum range to 200 yards with lots of practice.
I have 2 of the 30mm MatchDot's, and a new 2-7 Burris Plex among others. These are my 2 favorites. I also have a 30mm UltraDot on my 480 SRH, several older 2.5-7 Burris scopes on Contender Barrels, a 2-6 Simonds, and a 1" UltraDot. I have had Leupold's and other Burris handgun scopes over the years. The new glass / lens coatings are way better now than 30 years ago when I got started handgun hunting.
You will probably want to do a little work with a Dremmel Tool on the front of the grip. It has sharp edges around the trigger guard recess.
I am a big Contender fan, but my next purchase will probably be either a 223 or 243 CVA Scout. The CVA Scout is the most bang for your $$$ that you can get in a hunting handgun today.

You can let the hammer down, and then recock without the need of breaking the action open. (Big Improvement Over the Contender Design) Actually you don't have to break the action of the Contender open to reset the trigger, all you need do is pull back on the trigger guard spur.
Rod, too.
Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

Bog-Gear Tactical tri-pod (Just a little heavier than the standard ones) with a Bog Gear PSR Top. The PSR Top is not made anymore, but Natchez does a have a package deal that includes the PSR top that costs around $125-$145 and it has the very same tripod as in the video as well. Spinsail, These are the field bags I use the most (Rifle and Pistol) I tend to use the smaller two for handguns, but I do use the larger ones sometimes. The larger two I use the majority of the time for rifles. Everyone has their preferences, but I have used a small pillow field bag for over 90% of my shooting/hunting/competing with a specialty pistol. The Holland small brick bag for reference: 5"x4"x2.5" approximately. The Wall Bag is slightly smaller than the Holland

Congratulations, Sounds like the beginnings of a fun adventure! LOTS of good advice in this thread. I would second the comments from Bob about optics/sights. If most of your hunting is under 100 yards and you have decent eyesight (I wear strong glasses), a red-dot should work well and give you fast acquisition. I would look for one with a small dot size (~2MOA) and lots of adjustment for dot intensity (>5, 10 is better, intensity levels) to help reduce bloom and deal with dawn/dusk. I just got into red-dots and so far really like the ones with a large dot finding feature and then a small dot for the actual POA. I am using a "circle-dot" style.
