Today the wind finally died down a bit & I sneaked down to the range this afternoon to re check my sight settings. I'm really liking this Bowen Idaho Country rear sight. I know, Rough Country! Anyway, I ran 3 rounds at 50 yds just to get settled in and they were about 2" high at 50 yds so I painted the steel & moved back to 75 yds, actually ranged at 76 & fired 5 rounds without looking through the glasses. Not hard to tell you are hitting it, when these big 387 gr. HP's hit that target it really dances. After putting my gear away I drove down & had 4 really good hits & one a bit out of the group but for me with iron sights at 75 yds I was very pleased. The 50 yd group had been centered but a tick high, this group was just a bit right as you can see. Not sure if that was me, the wind, the sun, who knows but I'll make one more test drive before climbing into the ring with what I consider the toughest animal to hunt in the lower 48 states, the rocky mountain elk! If there's a tougher animal to hunt I've missed out on it. They can break your heart, having you dancing a jig around the campfire or swearing like a sailor, sometimes all in the same day. I love them, hate them, respect them & there's nothing I would rather hunt. Dick

You are getting there. What kind of rear field bag are you using with your PSR top?

I believe you're there, Dick.

I smell elk loins in the future! Good shoot'n, Dick.
It takes 43 muscles to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger squeeze.

Rod, too.
Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

Ernie, that's a little bag that my wife sew's for me, she makes them out of old leather purses instead of throwing them away. They are a little rectangle about 4"X5" & 2" thick. I fill them with sand & then she sew's them shut. I always have 3-4 of them around when I'm shooting. They only weigh about one pound. It's also the same thing she does for my cell phone that I carry around my neck so I can hear the dang thing & also I don't lose my phone. Lost it twice chasing badgers before, or maybe they were chasing me, can't remember!

If I could shoot groups like that at 75, I`ed retire my scopes What I feel is so good about these groups at that distance is ( which you would know better then I ) if those elk are in the heavy stuff, the 75yd spread should give a second or two more to get those sights lined up... are they black on black???

I have used a small field bag/pillow bag for years with both revolvers and SP's-They just work for me.

Good luck. I know what you mean about the Elk. 75 yards is where I ended my shooting with my 475 linebaugh before the season started. It paid off for me. It's going to pay off for you. Looking forward to the pics and story.

James, there's a pretty good chance I won't get to use iron sights unless it's later in the season. It starts tomorrow & they are really wild from what everyone has told me. Coming out right at dark & heading back into the heavy timber before daylight. For me that's a problem with this gun. No I don't use black on black, never have. I have a white outline rear & one of my narrow (1/10") front sights & a very small part is painted bright orange. The reason only a small part of the top is painted is, I can use the bottom of the paint as a second sight, it might be 125 yds, perhaps 150, etc. Find where it's zeroed & it's deadly. I have to have some contrast, black on black in bad light against the hide of an animal in the shadows never made a lot of sense to me. Black on black at the range is best, in the field it's about #10 on the list. My scoped 10 1/2" 44 will be sticking out of the backpack as always, might have to use it. Ernie, I've seen your bag, you do quite well with it! As for the badgers, stay tuned!
