As a new Contender owner I just found out about this association and see it has a quarterly magazine. It sounds like it is mostly a collectors group and I am not a collector. Anyone know if the magazine has enough material on hunting and shooting to make it worthwhile?

SS, Though not a member of the TC association, I find the other handgun group magazines are geared more to historic and collector information with very little on hunting....Very little....Pic shows a flyer enclosed with the RCA mag.....

Thanks James, that is what I figured. This forum is great and I have enjoyed the articles here but I seem to read them faster than you guys write them.

I belonged to the TCA for several years, had several articles published, and bought several limited edition T/C's. I enjoyed it. However, it went through a period when publication was sporadic, and I dropped my membership. I have no idea what it is like today, though.

Not sure if I let my subscription expire or what but the last issue that I received was the 'Winter 2014' issue.

The fella that had (or still is) pretty much been running the show for several years is Ed Kirkpatrick of Ed's Contenders in Okla. City, Okla.....he is or was the Secretary / Treasurer of TCA and handled subscriptions also.

One of my hunters gifted me a 2 year membership to the TCA and the magazine is one of the highest quality rags I have ever seen as far as paper type AND THE PHOTO QUALITY is superb.

Having said that, yes it is mostly a collector's magazine, very little on shooting and nothing on hunting or reloading.

I think I need to have actually bagged something with a handgun, something I am working on but have not yet achieved.

Never been a member, but I do have the Encore that TC gave Gil Hebard when he received the "Outstanding Handgunner of the Year" award in 1999. Blued 44 mag, and the serial number is HOY1999.

Was it a special one off with fancy engraving or other embellishment? Any pics?

Nothing special with the metal, but it had really nice walnut on the grip and so-so on the forend. The grips seemed to be oversized. I sold them and put a Pachmayr set on it. The serial number is the only really cool thing, so I shoot it. Also put a 223 barrel and 357 barrel on it. I have taken two deer with it, one being my 2nd biggest buck.
