went out on sat, first day in md season. for the first time all season i overslept.
snoozed the clock at 4:00 and it didn't ring any more. finally woke up at 6:10...10 minutes before legal shooting time, 45 minutes from the treestand
quickly dressed, loaded up and started driving (observing all speed limits, of course
) raced into the woods and up the tree. checked the time...6:50. i sat there grumbling and fuming, hating the world, and kicking myself for about an hour; listening to all the shots ringing out everywhere else. then i noticed two deer coming across the field toward the finger woods i was in. they look to have been pushed from somebody else.one was a 3" spike, the other a doe. they each took different trails. the spike came in and stopped right under the stand and the doe stopped broadside 10 yards in front of me. the 44 sbhh spoke and sent a 240 grain hp in on side and out the other. she ran off, but i watched her fall only 30 yds away. the spike never moved the whole time, but finally walked away after a few minutes(i'm tryin some semblence of "management" or else i would have tried him, too). i can't believe it...i've hunted exclusively with that gun for 2 years with no luck at all and this time, even over sleeping, it managed to all work out. then i sat back in the stand, chilled out, and soaked up all the good things that i had ignored all morning while i was grumping. that was everything i had anticipated...so cool to get one with the handgun. i'm hooked for life!
