Was a rough hunt. Moon was so bright everything had distinct shadows. Bucks went nocturnal big time with that and the heat (was near 80 in the days).... Last year I?d see 75-85 deer a day and this year 15-20.... the .45-70 Govt. got to eat an old scrub buck and that?s it, but at least I went home with antlers and meat!
I saw 2 shooter muleys the first morning. Out of the ones I had on camera they were the 2 I wanted to grow some. I decided to let them walk then never saw another shooter muley all week.
I saw one decent WT 8pt opening morning but he never came out of the brush and then took off. Yesterday evening I saw a monster WT for a few seconds.... he was walking a drainage and stopped to run his antlers on some brush... It was about 5 min past shooting light and too dark to take an ethical shot... NEXT YEAR!!!
Was a great hunt with family and friends though and memories made forever.

Very nice. Congrats.

I'm guessing you used the same solid that you took the hog with? How was the performance ,shot distance ,etc, etc. Our deer have sharp edged feet [lots of dirt],rocky as it looks your deer's foot edges should be rounded pretty good. Good looking deer!

I like the pic and story, and the caliber is an all time great. Congrats on the hunt. It's also good to see a fellow Texan who uses a little onion with the okra. Someone knows how to cook.

Good on ya, Cody!

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

Sorry for delay in reply...Been in bed with a nasty combo of the flu and strep for the last few days....

Yes, I used the 300 grain Lehigh match solids. The shot was 88 yards and as I always do, I aim for the front shoulder. Bullet made complete pass-thru, shattering both leg bones and the buck dropped in his tracks and didn't move an inch. Internal damage was jelly as has been the case on everything I've shot with this bullet. Very pleased with its performance. My goal is to get some greater distance shots soon...
