I had the afternoon so I decided to sit one of the fields I've been seeing a few deer in. The cold snap has temps in the 20's here in Alabama and I figured it would be a great evening.

I got to the camp around 1:45 and warmed the wheeler up, then loaded my gear planning to sit from 2 until dark. The road in takes me past the stand where I shot the Hog Wallow buck about a month ago.

Easing off, I mentally went through the list of things I needed with me. Encore, Trail Cam to set up before the hunt, and Backpack with my bags, plugs, binocs, etc.

All accounted for and ready.

Half way in I topped a rise that opens into a small field we plant as strictly supplemental food ... and there they were. Those hogs I've chased for 2 years!! Out came the Encore ... in went a round. Nested in my bag on the front rack I saw piglets rush by, then a BIG sow, then the second sow who was a little too slow. Crosshairs ... trigger ... boom. 50 yard shot.

25 yards into the plantation pine and there she was. A nice trail of blood led right to her. The 200XTP pushed at 1300FPS was plenty enough to create 2 holes and do some serious damage.

All in all a stellar day. I never did deer hunt, but I'll take getting this hog, first animal with the Encore, and gaining the knowledge my little super accurate 200XTP load will get the job done.

The Encore was put together last April. I bought as a frame-only and had MGM build me a 13" Full Bull barrel in .44 Mag. Plan to add a 10" Full Bull .357 Mag this year.

The 200XTP load is mouse fart, but is just so one-ragged-hole accurate I never went on up the ladder. I do load a 215SWC at a shade more velocity that shoots to point-of-aim with the XTP's. Honestly, had I known these hogs would show, the hardcast is what I would have hit her with.

I load 240's for the Ruger ... have XTP and hardcast loads for it as well.

Doesn?t appear she needed more than what you used. Well done.

About like a 41 Magnum from a revolver I reckon. I wouldn't want to be on the receiving end! I bet the (lack of) recoil makes shooting that a real pleasure.
