I have a 10" contender bbl with just a weaver scope mount on it. the front of bbl is milled for what i would believe would be ipssc sight. with all of that said i have not been able to get the accuracy out of this bbl. doesn't seem to be anything wrong with it, just my hand loads don't seem to be cutting it. I origainally thought of rechambering to 30-30 but my local gunsmith said it was a crap shoot between a shooter and an expensive draw bar pin. Is my local guy right? what other common calibers can it be chambered to.

Too small. Trouble is with only a 10" length it limits practicality of some options.

Rod, too.

Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

If you cannot get it to shoot, sell it with the dies as a package.
Then I would order a 13" MGM barrel in 30-30 AI, 357 Maximum, or some other caliber that reloading dies are not astronomically expensive for.
A barrel from MGM or BullBerry will no doubt shoot well.

What are you shooting in your 14" 30 30 contender?

federal 150 grn factory- blue and silver box. 1" groups at 100 - i also tried leverevolution ammo but the groups doubled 2 " at 100 still minute of deer but more precise is better- I am not handloading for it until i get some game with the federal ammo and finds out it lets me down- if not i will continue to shoot it for "easy".

I agree with Bob on selling/trading it as a package deal with the dies and brass. I also like the idea of the 13 inch MGM 357 Max barrel as a compliment to the 30-30 you already have. Brass is available again for the Max and you can use 357 Mag dies to load.

Have you tried anything like casting the chamber to see if you can identify a problem in alignment or the throat?
I know little about the 30 Herrett, but could you deepen the throat and load the bullets longer if that was the issue?
I have a 10" 30-30 barrel at home and don't find much use for it after getting a 14"
