It never fails. . .I find something I really like, buy/use them for years and then the item is no longer made or has been "improved". For this instance it just happens to be Hornady bullets. . .why do they keep messing up a good thing? The .430 300 grain XTP is a favorite bullet of mine in the 44 Mag, 444 Marlin and my muzzleloader. For the smokeless cartridges I like to seat the bullet on the bottom cannelure. Well guess what? Not no more, they seem to have done away with it on the 5 new boxes that the Brown Santa just dropped off today! This happened to the 265 grain flat point bullet too. They've done away with my 7mm A-Max bullets a while ago. . .what gives???

Did away with the dual groove? Seems like a dumb move.

it seems that everyone has fallen for the move or die idea of business. ive just got used to being happy if i can buy the same thing more than once. every one has forgotten NEW COKE and how well that worked. while we are on the subject has anyone noticed that "the customer is always right" is just a quaint thought from the past. now he customer is a necessary evil to be endured.

Everything before "but" is B.S.

BACK WHEN I WAS LOADING THE 45 COLT TO 454 LEVELS IN 45 COLT CYLINDERED MODEL 83's, AND GETTING PENETRATORS FROM CORBON, I WOULD GET CORBON TO DOUBLE CANNELURE THEM SO MY OAL IN 45 COLT CASES COULD BE THE SAME AS A 454. THAT WAS OVER 20 YEARS AGO, WHAT I DO NOT RECALL IS WHEN HORNADY STARTED D/C'ing ITS BULLETS.

PRODUCT CHANGES BY HORNADY AND OTHERS IS JUST A WAY OF LIFE, TRY FINDING THE .358 180 gr SSP BULLET, A GREAT HANDGUN BULLET, NOW DISCONTINUED.

I used to get annoyed and frustrated at Hornady's practice of moving cannelures, as far back as the 80's. I have no idea why these things happen, but it does indicate a lack of Q.C.

That's why, when I find something that works, I buy extras.
Anybody have any Nosler Solid Base bullets? I do, in several calibers- less destructive than BTs, more than PTs.
Every company does this.

LOL! I'm glad others feel my pain. I guess I'll just have to keep them for the muzzleloader and hunt for a new .44, 445SM and 444 marlin bullet. . .hardcast is on the horizon.

Thanks for the heads up. I was about to order some of these, but I guess I'll heat up the lead pot instead.

I bought thousands of A-Max bullets in multiple calibers before they disappeared. I saw the writing on the wall. And, they were on clearance!!

While I really like how Hornady keeps innovating and improving in so many ways, the real tragedy to me was when they discontinued the 220 grain 375 flat-point bullet. Not only was this bullet the optimal weight for 375 Winchester, but it was designed to work properly at lower velocities (not 375 H&H velocities that most 375 bullets are made for) and safe for use in a tube-magazine. It basically ended my love-affair with the 375. It would have been OK by me if they saw fit to introduce a FTX bullet in the same weight to replace it, but no...just dropped. Neither Speer, nor Sierra, nor any more expensive maker makes a bullet like the 375 Grain 220 grain flat point Interlock. The Sierra is too light (only 200 grains) and Speer doesn't even have a flat point available. I've found that cast bullets just can't handle it when loaded to 375 Win levels (and not downgraded to 38-55 levels).

Yes Sir. . .you got it worse off than I and you are correct about that being the only gig in town for the 375 Winny. Try out the Montana Bullet Works guys, they would probably work with you to design a cast bullet to fit your needs - no leading. Check out this link;

This may just be up your ally, Curioushooter!

DESIGN YOUR OWN, CHECK WITH FURY BULLETS, THEY MADE SOME 260 FP FMJ .452 BULLETS FOR ME THAT I AM JUST STARTING TO TEST IN A 454 AND SO FAR SO GOOD.

45MAN is right. . .I almost forgot they have a .375 jacketed bullet and it is a 220gr. designed for the .375 Win/.38-55. Check it out.

DICK: FIRST I SHOT 3 OUT OF 6 INCH MODEL 83 USING 34 gr 296, A HANDFULL IN THE 6 INCHER EVENTHOUGH IT HAD 2 MNP PORTS. SHOT THEM AT SOME BIG HARD ROCKS IN THE GRAVEL PIT UP AT THE RANCH. I HAVE SHOT AT SIMILAR ROCKS WITH CAST BULLETS MANY TIMES AND GET A SPOT, BUT WITH THESE 260 FMJ's BIG CHUNKS CAME OFF. THEN I SHOT 6 IN A SCOPED & MNP STALKERIZED 10 INCHER WITH 35 gr OF 296, USED THE 1st 3 TO DIAL 'ER IN AT 100 METERS AND THE BULLETS TRACKED APPROPRIATELY. THE WIND PICKED UP FOR A TRY AT A 3 SHOT GROUP, WHICH SHOWED PROMISE. WITH THE LONGER BARREL AND THE 4 PORTS THESE LOADS (POSSIBLY IN THE 1,900 fps RANGE) WERE EASY ENUFF TO SHOOT. NOW I WANT TO LOAD A FEW AT A RECOMMENDED MAX OF 36 gr OF 296, WHICH OUT OF THE 10 INCHER SHUD BE AT, NEAR OR ABOVE 2,000 fps, BUT A MF'er OF A NORTHER BLEW IN AND BETWEEN WEATHER, WORK, GOING TO A BUDDIES DEER LEASE TOMORROW AND GOING TO MY RANCH NEXT WEEK, DO NOT KNOW WHEN I WILL GET TO TRY THE 36 gr LOAD.

I MAY GO BLACK BEAR HUNTING IN ALASKA IN MAY OR JUNE. WILL PROBABLY USE AN 8 3/8 INCH 454 STALKER WITH BARNES BUSTERS FOR THAT HUNT, BUT MY BACK-UP, CHEST HOLSTER, GUN WILL BE MY LINEBAUGH CONVERSION OF A 44 REDHAWK TO 45 COLT, AND FOR THAT I WOULD LIKE TO USE THE 260 FMJ's AT AROUND 1,400 fps USING VV N110 POWDER.

EVEN AT 73, AND WITH 37 YEARS OF BEING A HANDGUN HUNTER, IT IS GREAT TO HAVE SOMETHING TO "WORK ON".

Rey, wish this had came up a few days ago, my son & I were at the Horandy factory last week on our way to Iowa to pick up a John Deere tractor & we took their tour of the plant.

I saw barrels full of that exact bullet but the one's I looked at closely had no crimp groove but I'm not sure they were in the final stage. We were not allowed to take any photo's. They employee over 300 people, amazing place with a 200 yd underground shooting tunnel under the parking lot.The lady told us they produced one bullet per second all day.First photo is my gunsmith son Shane.

The second old photo has Bill Ruger, Warren Page & Joyce Hornady in it on an elk hunt in Cody, Wyoming.

Thanks for the tip, but I have the ability to make bullet molds and do, usually paper jacketed (no grooves). The problem is that lead alloys have to be made extremely hard to withstand that kind of acceleration and have good accuracy in the 375 win. Extremely hard lead alloys have disappointing terminal performance in my observation, though. Great for range, but I want my hunting bullet back!
