Congratulations to Mark for being one of the five finalist for the 2018 Conklin Award. That is quite an honor sir, so a big congratulations to you. To be considered for this award is to reach a very high pinnacle in itself. Well earned by Mr. Hampton.

Wow, Mark. Congratulations on this great news. To be so recognized by Dr. Conklin's Foundation as a nominee is much deserved by you, and also a recognition of the viability of handgun hunting.

NOT KNOWING ABOUT THE CONKLIN AWARD, I GOOGLED IT. THE 2018 AWARD WAS GIVEN OUT AT THE DALLAS SAFARI CLUB GATHERING EARLIER THIS MONTH. A PRESTIGIOUS AWARD, BUT ALL THE WINNERS HAVE BEEN RIFLE HUNTERS. DO NOT KNOW WHY MARK DID NOT WIN IT THIS YEAR BUT HE IS CERTAINLY DESERVING OF THE AWARD.

Sorry guys, but soap box time.

This kind of gets my blood roiling... I do not have a problem at all with rifle hunters per se, as indeed I also qualify as one myself because I hunt with rifles, handguns, shotguns, bow and arrow. etc. I am pure and simply: A HUNTER.

BUT...It almost seems like we as handgun hunters as a group are looked down upon. I sincerely hope that I am not correct that this "disparaging" view of a person that hunts with a handgun had anything at all to do with the decision for that award to go to a rifle hunter, but I really gotta wonder.

Mark, since you were one of the five finalists, putting you on a par with the rest of them, you should have received that award; if for no other reason than the fact that a handgun is the more challenging weapon.

Don't get me wrong, I do not want to take anything away from the hunter that received the award, I am just venting.
