I wanted to share a recent experience. I have a Freedom Arms Model 97 in 45 colt. This is not a big revolver, with Trijicon RMR sight it weighs right at 40 oz with 5 1/2 inch barrel. I want to use it for deer and black bear. It can handle +P loads as long as they are no longer than 1.6" but such a light handgun is brutal with full +P loads from most makers. I found a company, Reeds Ammo, who put together a custom load for me, Hornady XTP 250grain at 1200 fps as opposed to most companies 1400-1450 fps, that is perfect. Price was very reasonable, I didn't have to wait a long time and they shoot great and at the expected velocity. Ideally I would load my own but my current situation does not allow for this. So, I wanted to share this very positive experience of the ability to get a tailored load for my 45 colt. Now, need spring bear season to arrive.

Ron Reed is a good guy who loaded ammo for me when I didn't have dies and just needed to shoot. He will tailor to your desires as you found out. And prices are much less than some of the other "boutique" outfits like Grizzly and BB. Good that you found them.
