Has anyone used Buffalo Bore 357 mag 180 gr. LFNGC for deer hunting.Am looking to use it this fall,I know some feel it is marginal but this ammo is rated at 1400 fps and 783 foot pounds of energy. This will give more penetration.Shots 35 yds and in.Hope some have used it and can give performance info.Thxs for any input.

I can't imagine why it wouldn't work well. The 44-40 pushed a .427, 200 grain lead slug at 1245 FPS from a carbine and it's said to have killed more deer than anything except the 30-30. The 32-20 pushed a little 100 grainer to 1200 FPS and it has taken it's share as well. That BB load is heavy stuff!

I've shot a few rounds out of a 6" gp100 and it grouped well at 10 yards. I think it would work very well on deer. I haven't chronoed it, but in my experience the bb velocities were accurate. I am planning on using the bb 140 gn barnes load for deer and got this to play with. Underwood has a 200gn load that is slightly slower.

Of course it will work if it's placed correctly Seldom will a bigger caliber make up for bad shooting.

Hey, LJD2, I've killed 6 heavy bucks from 50-100 yards with my Python and 158 gr. Sierra JHCs and one doe at 200 yards with a 160 gr. lead SWC from the Python. Your load will do just fine, but like Dick says, you have to shoot it right.

I am primarily a traditional archer so I really know the importance of bullet placement and waiting for the optimum shot. Will be using my Dan Wesson with a 6in.barrel.Thanks again

I used the rim rock 180 bullet ( its the one that buffalo bore uses ) loaded over 13 grains of 2400 and I was getting consistent high 1290 to low 1300 FPS over my chronograph out of my Blackhawk. The deer I have shot with it I aim for the shoulder and have never recovered a bullet. Always have a through and through shot , farthest I have shot was 65-70 yards and the doe fell in sight..

I've seen 158 grain cast bullets go right through and they weren't going that fast. I'd imagine it would work, but with longer tracking and restraint when it comes long shots.

I decided to go with a 357 Herrett over my 357 Mag because I wanted to take those shots with confidence and not worry if it runs a mile.

I am interested to see your results. I just picked up some 158 gr Aframes that I will be testing this year as well. Just be picky about your shot angles and should work out.

I have also used 180 Aframe on a watusi that a buddy had shot and said that I could put it down to test the 357 and put it right through the boiler room and got penetration all the way to the off side hide with perfect expansion at about 25 yrds away when I pulled the trigger. It was only moving at 1250 fps. The BB 180 should penetrate better.
