One goal is to get my .44 Redhawk back in action. I had it drilled and tapped and installed a Weigand rail. I plan to put a micro red dot sight on it next. I can't say it'll be my primary hunting gun on any outings, but who knows. We do plan to take two deer next season, well drillers screwed that up this year, and work on the hogs who have overrun our place. the problem is they seem primarily nocturnal. We have a feeder light, but it may be better suited to AR hunting. I may end up with a 358 JDJ this year unless I can control myself. If so, I'll have to use that on something!

Hmmmmm....well...have a group hunt planned with several of the guys from this site in March. That's the next planned handgun hunt. If I could hunt anything, it would be Mountain Goat....my goals are to kill 5 WT deer next season... this year was only the 2nd year since I was 18 that I didn't kill a deer

Franchise, sorry you had such a tough season. Our 2017 season was hot and dry during much of it. Better luck this year.

I don't have special plans other then my lease in SC where we do pretty good. i hope to be true and keep the handgun all season and not give into my long guns.

If I could pick a hunt it would be a camp out western hunt. I have never been out west and never done a walk in camp hunt. I hope at least twice in my life to be able to do one. I say twice because I imagine if/when I did one I would have to do another.

Going out to N Dakota to shoot prairie dogs in June. Taking two 17 HMR rifles (1 bolt and 1 semi-auto), two 223 rifles (1 bolt and 1 semi-auto)plus my 12" Encore in 223.

Should be going to MN bear hunting in Sept. I have 2 preference points. Still not sure what I will use but have it narrowed down to 4 weapons. My crossbow, my Ruger #1 in 45/70, my Ruger Guide gun in 338 RCM, or my 5" Ruger Super Redhawk in 44 mag. I shot my last bear with my 480 SRH.

Whitetail deer for sure. Dream hunt would be plains game in Africa but I don't see that happening. An elk hunt would be sweet in KY or anywhere and more doable . April is turkey month.

Bull bison hunt this Spring in Arizona on the Kaibab Plateau. Gonna use my 454 SBH with handloads. By far the biggest game I?ve hunted with a handgun.

Goals for this year are to get my boy his first pig and his first deer with a handgun.

Other than that.........just eradicating pigs and culling deer.

Draw a New Mexico elk tag. And then tag one. If we don?t draw, I?m thinking of going to Wyoming for antelope.

I plan to hunt whitetail here in North Carolina. My dream hunt at my age would be to hunt Antelope some day but that is not likely to happen. But I am happy with .y whitetails.

Deer, elk, bear, antelope. First year putting in for cow moose, but it takes at least 4 years before eligible to draw. Probably take the flintlock rifle on the deer hunt. Rest will be with a 500 JRH. Well, except the antelope. Probably a 45 Colt on that one.

One hunt I'd like to do is mountain lion.

The 45 Colt for antelope sounds very interesting since I think of antelope as a long range shot proposition. Do you get in close, have a long barreled and scoped 45 Colt, or what?

I have never hunted antelope and my 45 Colt is a 4.62" and I use it for up close hunting. I wouldn't mind a 7.5" SBH Hunter in 45 Colt.

The only plans I have are whitetail deer this fall and feral pigs for some land owners any time I can. The one hunt that's on my bucket list is a bear.

Spinsail-- I feel pretty confident to 100 yards with a 45 Colt. We can get to 100 yards on antelope in southeast Colorado. I'll have a rifle with me as well, but the 45 Colt will be my first choice. Not a long barrel. I prefer a max of 5.5" on my revolvers. Might scope it, but I doubt it.

The 45 Colt is my second favorite caliber. It can be loaded light enough for one handed plinking for a 10 year old, or loaded hot enough that a full grown man better use two hands, and hang on. That 45 Colt SBH you mentioned with a 7.5" barrel is the only "long barrel" I wouldn't mind having. My customs are always done with a 5.5" barrel, but I might just get that 7.5" this year, and leave it stock.

I MAY DO A BLACK BEAR HUNT IN ALASKA IN MAY OR JUNE, AND IF I GET TO GO TO THE HONDO HUNT I WILL SHOOT SOMETHING. OTHER THAN THAT, WHITETAIL AND FERAL HOGS, MAYBE SOME COYOTE HUNTING. I DON'T USUALLY SHOOT THE BIG SHEEP AND AOUDAD AT MY RANCH. NOW IF I GOT LUCKY AND WON A LOTTO THE LIST WUD GO UP.

THE HUNTS I WOULD LIKE TO DO ARE FOR ANY OF THE 4 OF THE NINE SPIRAL HORN ANTELOPE SPECIES I HAVE NOT TAKEN YET, i.e. LORD DERBY ELAND, SITATAUNGA, LESSER KUDU AND MOUNTAIN NYALA, AND I ALWAYS WANTED TO DO A COASTAL BROWN BEAR HUNT FROM A BOAT, OF COURSE ONLY WITH HANDGUNS, I WOULD NOT SPEND GOOD MONEY TO SHOOT SOMETHING WITH A RIFLE.

I WAS GOING TO START A TOPIC RE WHAT GUN PLANS/GOALS GUYS HAVE AS A SEPARATE TOPIC FROM HUNTING PLANS/GOALS.

I HAVE A LOT OF GUN PROJECTS UNDONE, e.g. GETTING MY ENCORE 375 JDJ AND ENCORE 7MM TCU BARRELS UP AND RUNNING, WORKING UP LOADS FOR MY 224 K-CHUK AND 22 SUPER JET REVOLVERS, MAYBE TRYING TO GO HOTTER ON RELOADS FOR MY BLACKHAWK AND PYTHON 25-20 REVOLVERS, WORKING UP SOME GOOD 158gr XTP LOADS FOR AN EARLY COLT NEW FRONTIER 357 MAG REVOLVER AND A COUPLE OF BLACKHAWK REVOLVERS (OM AND NM), WORKING WITH MY BFR 22 HORNET AND 10 INCH CONTENDER 22 HORNET, .......BUT MY 3 PRIMARY GUN GOALS ARE: 1) WORK UP A 2,000 fps LOAD IN MY 10 INCH FA 454 WITH THE FURY 260gr FP FMJ's; 2) WORK UP A 1,400 - 1,500 fps LOAD FOR MY 45 COLT LINEBAUGH REDHAWK WITH THOSE FURY BULLETS (BEAR PROTECTION LOADS); AND 3) WORK UP A HOT LOAD IN MY 9 INCH FA 353 (A 357 MAG MODEL 83) WITH A SWIFT BULLET, EITHER THE 158 OR THE 180, AND THEN USE 1) AND 3) TO HUNT WITH.

First it?s Turkey hunt and hopefully I can get back to Wy for my annual Pdog hunt. Deer I fall and I have high hopes of getting a hog somewhere. Of course small game and coyotes better beware. The Pdog hunt is usually 3days and will include some rifles, since lever actions are fun too. Pistols will be the 38sp, 44 , 45, 22 w/mag cylinder also. This is where I long for a specialty pistol. Rifle has to include 22-250 17 HMR,,,I have to be sure and keep the death rate high. Lever guns will include the 92 in 45 Colt, which by the way makes a mean hog gun when loaded with 360gr cast. The 30-30 loaded with 115gr cast makes for a fun long shot with the MarblesTang peep sight. Lots of variety and ways to keep barrels cool

Its looking like turkeys in NC and VA in the spring. A cow elk hunt in MT in Oct. Deer hunting in NC, VA, and OH.

My dream hunt would be a mature male leopard

CT: I USE A 85gr CAST BULLET AND H4227 POWDER. FAST POWDERS WILL CREATE SETBACK PROBLEMS SO GO WITH THE SLOWER POWDERS. I NEED TO CHRONO MY PRESENT LOAD AND SEE IF I CAN'T JACK IT UP SOME. DECIDED AT THE BEGINNING THAT I WOULD USE THE HEAVIER CAST BULLETS AND NOT TRY TO HOT ROD 60 gr JACKETED BULLETS. WILL LOOK UP MY LOAD AND POST IT.

45Man that sounds Like a good load. RP and Win seem to be better brass. If you chronograph the combo it would be interesting to know what it is. I like the 25-20 and don?t care to hot rod it but if you can get 1200 or more that?s great. I would bet you could take a deer with that load if you wanted. I want to try the little 25 on a Javelena. I didn?t get to go in 2017 but that is another hunt I really want to take. I would also take my S&W 5? 27 It needs a Javelena to its collection

Accompany a friend on spot and stalk handgun griz hunt this spring, if we see a blackie I'll go for it. We're doing a handgun Dall Sheep hunt in August. I need moose meat this year and another buddy needs to kill one with a handgun so it will be handgun moose hunt in Sept. Scoped 45 Colt BisHunter or 454 FA for sheep. 500L open sights for moose and bear.

Mountain lion in Arizona in just over a month. It can?t get here fast enough!

Little leery of flying with my Python, so I may take a SAA in .44 special instead. It?s the first handgun that I shot a deer with open sights, so it would mean a lot to me.

May's the month, squirrel and groundhogs. Not much to hunt till then except coyotes and paper.

My brother and cousin have been kicking around the idea of a PD hunt this summer. Sounds like fun, but I don't have a long range PD pistol....yet. Hmmmm

Rod, too.

It doesn't get any better than when you make a good shot with a pistol, on a Pdog. I have taken several sizes and will do it again, in May. The first kill with a pistol was with the 44 mag of mine and I walked down to take a look since I did not see anything. Pieces just a bunch of pieces.
Your rifles are what I call, 100-150 yd range. I would feel that your hornet would do 100yds easily. All of them should be good for switching a little and not get hot.
Sounds like you have a fun trip planned.
