I am also sorry to hear that Gary. I have only been active a few years, but found the site to be extremely helpful as I got started in handgun hunting. I feel that HHM is one of the better if not best resource out there for this info and a great place to get feedback and opinions.

I would be very interested in helping if someone/some group coalesces around a plan for continuation of the site in some way.

I'm in too! I contacted Gary about buying it, but it's out of my reach to do alone. There are others who have contacted him as well. Let's get this done!!

I also would be interested at the very least as a contributor, columnist, and/or also as a moderator if that would be of interest to the new owner/s. Unfortunately I can not help financially due to overwhelming and over-due medical bills.

Anybody have any ideas?

Oh man...bummer. This has been a great resource for me and a community I enjoyed checking in on daily. It will be missed greatly. As a younger man to the sport, it's been a great source of info on challenging topics that are not often covered in other resources. I can only hope someone will take the baton and continue to lead the magazine and keep it alive.

Thanks Gary for all you've done.

This is truly sad news. I just rediscovered this site after many years absence. It is a treasure trove of information and entertainment for our often maligned and misunderstood hobby. So many wonderful people here I never would have known existed.

I have found this site to have been an endless wealth of knowledge and experience from the more seasoned handgun hunters here than myself. And I will say that it is the nicest and most helpful group of folks I have found on the internet. With Facebook censoring and shutting down many of the gun discussion groups I feel like this site is even more important now than ever. If someone is willing to take over, is there a way we can all contribute to a fund to cover operating costs of the website so nobody is incurring the workload to run and maintain and cover the costs themselves as well?

Gary,

First of all. THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR STARTING AND MAINTAINING THIS SITE FOR SO MANY YEARS. GREAT JOB. So sorry it is coming to an end.

I would certainly be interested in paying a membership fee or usage fee if anyone takes the plunge at continuing the site. I believe there is a group of us that were former HHI members that were paying annual dues there that would gladly do it again. The combination of closure of this site and the demise of HHI leaves a gap and creates an opportunity for a new organization.

That is a bummer to read!

Thank you Gary for having this platform as long as you have... I learned a lot and got a ton of inspiration from all of the great members on this site!

Thank you again!

Having just gotten back into handguns again in the last few years I found that I knew little about handgun hunting as it now stands but this forum really was a great education and eye opener. I read each post with excitement and wonder at some of the skills and knowledge assembled here. Thanks to Gary for this site and all those that participated and shared their knowledge. I sure hope someone can step forward and keep it going, we almost lost our airgun forum this year but a new site was created to keep the knowledge intact. Again, thanks to all.

Man... I have only been here for a short amount of time. However I have learned many things thanks to this community. Thank you for all the time and effort that has been put into this site. I would also like to thank all the community for all the help and responses that have lead me to be a better handgun hunter!

IT WILL SHUT DOWN BEFORE I HAVE BEEN A MEMBER FOR A YEAR, BUT EVEN AS A LONG TIME HANDGUN HUNTER, I HAVE LEARED MANY THINGS ON THIS WEBSITE, AND MADE SOME NEW FRIENDS AND RENEWED OLD ACQUAINTANCES. MANY THANKS TO GARY FOR HAVING DONE IT. I HOPE SOME ONE CAN CONTINUE IT OR REPLACE IT. WE NEED A WEBSITE LIKE THIS.

RECENTLY THERE WERE PERSONAL ATTACKS THAT I DO NOT BELIEVE BELONGED ON THIS WEBSITE AND THAT CREATED A TOXIC ATMOSPHERE. ASIDE FROM THIS RECENT TOXICITY, WHICH SEEMS TO HAVE ABATED, I ENJOYED 99% OF THIS WEBSITE.

Ive been here a long long time. One of the first sites i found when i first got internet. I can remember when there might be one or two posts every day or two. Now you might have 50 on one thread to say nothing. 🤪😂

Seen many many people come n go also. There were one or two site formats before this one.
Would Be nice if someone could help it continue. If not..... well.....life will go on.....until it doesnt anymore.

Specialty pistols website has a hunting section. Facebook(kinda sadly and so far) has several handgun and handgun hunting related groups. If this doesnt get resolved before the curtain falls seek another gathering place to regroup n plan.

I am sad to hear bout this but I am very thankful to Gary for all the work he has put into this site. I, like many others have learned so much from this site and everyone on it. I also would like to invite anyone on this site who is on face book to send me a friend request so we can keep up with each other. I am Michael Moore on facebook.

If it is a financial issue, I'd bet enough members could pony up a few bucks each to pay the bills. I am a member of a few sites that take donations to float the boat, voluntary. If it is a time thing, that is a different story. This place has been like home for me and many of the people I have met here I will surely miss. If it does come to an end perhaps we can meet up on another forum or something. It is fairly simple to set up a facebook group. It wouldn't be the same as this but we could keep in touch and share stories. Thank you for all the efforts, Gary.

Like many others here, I would like to thank Gary for al the time and work he has put into this venture. I can only guess how much stress the early years brought and how much time/money he has sunk into this. \The site provided friends, information and inspiration. In a world where even other hunters regard handgun hunting as something of a fringe activity, its been a great reassurance to have the company of like spirits who thrive on the challenge.

If anyone can come up with a viable model to keep the site going then I'd be happy to contribute a paid membership or whatever else is needed.

As many of you are now aware, handgunhunt.com will go offline June 1st. I don't blame Gary at all for pulling the plug, but I for one am not ready to see it go. This may be blind idealism talking, but I've been thinking of some ideas to keep this community together.

1. I'll buy the domain. I've asked Gary about the ins and outs of buying and keeping the website operational. If it's reasonable, I'll see about buying it myself. I'll keep y'all updated.

2. Fundraising campaign. If I'm incapable of buying the domain/website, I propose a fundraiser. Maybe something like a GoFundMe, Kickstarter, Patreon, or even just plain old donations so we can get the site going, either to assist Gary if finances are the biggest hurdle to maintaining the site, or to allow a group of us to purchase and maintain it.

3. Joining another site together. In the event we can't save handgunhunt.com, I propose we come together to decide/vote on another website we can all join together. Having dealt with Facebook pages and not being fond of them, I'd prefer if it was a forum like this one. It's not ideal, but if we can still get together and talk handgun hunting and shooting, I'm all for it. If we do, we should have a phrase or logo in the signature line marking us as former HHM members.

Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated.

I apologize if I'm stepping out of line suggesting things like this, but I really don't want to see this site go. I love the forum and all my fellow members, and I want to do everything in my power to see our community stay together.

When I saw the announcement and started this post I contacted Gary about buying it. I will be frank, he is only asking $10K for a turnkey operation that includes over a dozen other domains for protection; I feel that is a BARGAIN.

I contacted one of our members here, a world-wide known handgun hunter that has written several books on Handgun Hunting, and he and I are PM'ing. I offered to help, etc. and I feel that he would be a natural to take it over but no real decision yet.

Just FYI guys.

I hope somebody with a good bit of handgun hunting experience (or else takes one of us on who DOES have the experience as a full-time advisor) and that can manage it correctly (has some editorial experience or knowledge and can finance it on their own if need be) ends up with it.

Not making ANY personal judgements here, just giving my opinion which I think is common sense anyway.

(WHO EVER SAID THAT COMMON SENSE IS COMMON)

Just so the rest of you are aware, I've been discussing it with Gary and we have reached a possible agreement. Before I officially decide on anything, I'm messaging Gregg to discuss some things first.
