Of all the jacketed bullets out there for the 44 Magnum, does anyone know which bullet manufacturer has the thickest jacket.

YOU ARE ASSUMING THAT A MANUFACTURER'S JACKET THICKNESS DIMENSIONS DO NOT VARY, WHICH MAY BE A VERY BIG ASSUMPTION.

Don`t know much about this but I do know jackets vary in how the copper is made... Swift and Speer bullets run slower then XTP from same gun with same handload... Whether the thickness also causes them to run slower I don`t know.... This sounds like something JWP may be able to answer...

While looking for info on the Frontier brand plated bullets for .454 Casull made in South Africa, I came across this photo
From left: 390CSGR, 370Frontier, 325gr Swift A frame, 300gr Hornady mag, 300gr Sierra and 300gr Speer. The standout thing for me was how massive the Swift jacket was compared to the rest.

The article in full is at http://www.calibros.com/frontier390/bullets%20for%20big5.htm

As suggested by others, the fact that a particular brand and model had a particular thickness at one point in time, doesn't mean it continues to be made to the same specification. Indeed this may explain the different results members have had with the XTPs.

Another thing to consider is the hardness of the lead core in relation to jacket thickness....

Custom Bullet manufacturers allow you to pick your own jacket thickness...like Fury Custom Bullets for example

There is a lot to this. Not only the hardness of the core, and the thickness of the jacket, but the hardness of the jacket. Was it made of pure copper? 5% zinc? 10% zinc? Was the jacket annealed after forming, or was it left in it's work hardened state? Or is it plated on?

Thats why when people say theres not one bullet for everything its not really accurate. They arent cheap, but short of elephants ya got a bullet adequate for deer and hogs but also dangerous game.

Than again i might use em on elephants.

Mark are you referring to the Swift a-aframe?

No wondering too fast or too slow. No wondering if youre too close or to far. 5 ft or 200 yards. They get it done. Expensive but they do it all, yes aframes.

I`ve used all the sectioned bullets pictured above except the two on the left to take game with the only difference being that my Sierra was in .44 caliber and ALL THAT I`AM SAYING HERE is when I put them in the right place they worked...

Also found it interesting how the shape of the Sierra bullet so closely matched JDJ 320gr cast....

Found out a long time ago that the A-frame is the superior JHP with the discontinued Partition a close second... Been on board that "boat" since I first recovered one from a good size boar... Have Swift bullets in 357-41-44-45 and 50 calibers...I know a good thing when I can see the results at my feet and finding an expanded bullet does`ent hurt....just verifies
;\)

PS- what better way to prove to someone from Missouri that a particular JHP bullet works besides the dead animal it came from

Usually it is the friction increase of the jacket material that causes the same bullets to run slower than another bullet of the same weight. This can also because by bearing surface length.

A guided metal jacket generally creates Les friction than a pure copper.

John, like I told you man, you are a wealth of Relevant information in my book. We don't have to shoot the same guns and bullets to respect each other. I agree with you, it's the small details that make a big difference 👍
