Saturday was a day of firsts for me. It was my first animal with my 4-3/4" 454 and my first deer with iron sights. The shot (about 50 yards) went just a touch low but broke both front legs and carved a trench in the bottom edge of the heart. She went about 50 yards and piled up. I was shooting a Cast Performance 335 WLNGC.

Hunting with the short barrel & iron sights seemed to me very much like bow hunting.

Congrates Gary! Been thinking of packing an iron sighted wheel gun for a while myself. Got my eye on a Blackhawk in .41mag with 4 5/8" brl. The thought of having to really get in close is whats got me intrested.

Anyway.........congrates again and thanks for sharing!

congrats..... looks like a big doe. hmmmm....don't think i've ever used iron sights myself.

ya just had to remind me of the 4 5/8" super blackhawk. i USED to have. wish i had kept it and put a red dot scope on it. bout the only thing i ever thought a red dot scope would interest me on.

Kentucky….no place like home.

NICE Gary!! All I used for the first couple of years was iron sights. It's very challenging. As a matter of fact that gun just got a scope this year. Was iron sights for 14 years.

Good Job Gary! Iron sights do add to the challenge and a short barreled iron sighted revolver is a joy to carry!

I don't own a scoped revolver, figure I'll carry a single shot pistol if I need a scope......in fact, I have been known to carry both a scoped single shot and an iron sighted revolver at the same time....

That is awsome. I just have never got the nerve up to take the SRH with iron sights to deer hunt.

Gary,
Good job. Taking game with iron sights is a lot like archery hunting.

If you pack enough handguns it can be more like golf. Just pick the iron sighted #454 iron for the ones that sneak in close enough.

Just like golf - That describes the situation perfectly. It would also be a great comeback next time some weenie asks why you need more than one gun. You'd have to bait the trap just right to make them get the full effect desired.

Good job! I agree on the archery part. Using iron sights is a huge challenge...

CONGRATS Gary! Sorry I'm so late posting but I was having one of those computer crisis'. Obviously you learned to shoot the old fashioned way, with irons.

Did you ever shoot the metal targets the old way, with irons and nothing to rest on but yourself? That Ram was awful small at 200 meters, Eh ?
