for a donation to help sustain this website.

Chance and I have about 30 days now until we close the deal with Gary and become the new owners of handgunhunt.com. As most of you know and understand, buying this website is a huge donation of money as well as time to keep it afloat and manage it, as it produces a negative cash flow.

But despite the fact that Chance and I will have to continuously pull money out of our pockets to keep this site running (until we can hopefully turn that around, but again by giving of huge amounts of our time) we have made the decision that we WILL NOT require membership dues or user fees. This change of ownership will be as seamless as possible; only a few minor changes will be made.

Many thank you's to those of you that have already contributed; we are a little less than 1/3 of the way toward achieving my projected target goal for donations from our close to 10,000 members.

So I have to ask: Fourteen of the 9800 have donated. Yet when Gary announced that he was shutting this website down, everybody that responded was upset and wanted to keep it going; most even volunteering to send a donation.

And like I said, a lot of you have. And when time allows and the dust settles from this adventure of closing the deal, you will be sent a special Little Gun Outfitters pen and a drawing will be held to see which of you wins a custom knife from Kim Ralston, and 2nd place a knife-saw-flashlight kit from Little Gun Outfitters.

But getting back to my question, (and human nature being what it is, maybe it is a silly question), but what about the other 9786 members that have not yet sent in a donation? Seriously, asking for a $100 donation is tough on my part as I am proud but I do know that several of you have committed but not come through yet...

But rest assured that Chance and I will strive to come through, as we are both men of integrity and will keep our word to Gary.

So...how 'bout a little help? Please, handgun hunters!

Remember, we are the minority in the world of hunting, and this website is by far THE KING when it comes to our world.

Yes James of course it will help! Thank you, I hope this inspires some of the other "slow movers" here.

This will make your donations come to $300, and that DOES give you THREE chances in the drawing...too bad that is the way it is.

Handgunners, not only do we have a world-class hog slayer here, but also a world-class MAN.

But I had that gut feeling before any of this came down, and I was right all along.

I am not a very active member on here, and even less since my son was born a few of months ago, but I have racked up countless hours reading and learning from the enormous wealth of knowledge on this site. Gregg, if you PM me the specifics, you can count me in for $100.

Gregg: will try to mail in another $100 check this week (but put me in twice for the drawing), also please repost the donation info/mail in address/payee info so we don't have to look all over for it.

Over the years on this site I have seen many beautiful guns, including many Freedoms and customs, not to mention many of us have been on countless hunts across the country, I don?t think it is unreasonable at all for Gregg to ask for contributions to keep this thing going, send what you can, I am donating a 115 year commeritive Camillus knife, it?s a 2 blade lock back with beautiful engraving and stag grips, I?m mailing it to Gregg, he can raffle it of to the next 5 guys who contribute.

You can make out a check to Gregg Richter (put HHM Contribution on bottom left) for $100 and mail it to:
Gregg Richter
33773 Martin Road
Pine, CO 80470

You will be sent a special pen and have an entry in the drawing for the custom knife and field dressing cutlery kit after the change of ownership.

Thank you 45MAN!

It is a sad commentary, when such a miniscule part of this community is willing to put their money where their mouth is. They will happily accept information that is freely given, but will not spend one thin dime to support the source. No one has the time or inclination to write their elected officials about harmful firearms legislation nor the money to donate the equivalent of one box of ammunition to support the NRA-ILA in its legal battles for their gun rights. Bad things (and bad laws) happen when good people do nothing. There are few pro-gun communities left in cyber-space. If this one goes down, just look in the mirror for the answer why.

Well stated, sir. You can tell a lot about people when the chips are down.

Seems like some regular posters have even "disappeared" lately. Actually, this last thought was PM'ed to me. But I feel the horse shoe fits the hoof, so will pass it along.

I believe that the good brave folks here will come through and we will survive.

I haven't forgotten, have a note to remind me on payday to send out money. Been in the slow-mover category while I took care of other financial obligations. I can't believe that only 14 people had donated when this post was written, sure were a lot of people offering to help out in any way they could to keep it afloat in the beginning.

Gregg, I can't even remember the last time I physically wrote a check, since all my bills auto pay through the bank. Can I send money to you through PayPal or some other non-check form? I'm not sure I can find my checkbook in the depths of my gun safe.

USUALLY, NO MATTER THE ENDEAVOR, ONLY A FEW ROW THE BOAT. ALSO, TO SOME $100 MAY NOT BE A LOT OF MONEY BUT TO MANY $100 MAY BE A LOT TO SQUEEZE OUT OF THE FAMILY BUDGET. MY THANKS TO THOSE THAT HELP, NO HARD FEELINGS TO THOSE THAT DON'T.

Yes, $100 is a lot of money to some of us. Some of you spend big bucks paying to hunt all over the country or the world and $100 is peanuts. Most of us are in a much different boat. Perhaps if you lower your sights a bit you might get more response. Isn't 5 donations of $20 the same as one of $100? Been saving for new rubber for the pickup, priorities. If one is going to be looked down upon for not having the means to drop a C-note at a whim, I have other priorities.

Rant over. Out.

One hundred dollars is a lot of money to me, I agree, and to be honest I don't know how that amount was established but I also don't know that it was set in cement. I also do not feel that calling it a "whim" is accurate.

S4s4u: my sights have been lowered if that is what you want me to say; any amount you or anybody else here wants to donate to help out is acceptable. I will adjust the drawing entries accordingly to keep it fair.

But if you have other priorities like tires, I understand.

My apologies to all here if you mistook Chance's and my intentions. We each plan on putting up several thousand dollars ourselves.

Gregg

Honest question.

Which mirror do we look at. The one that got us here or the one that won?t save us?

I have a disabled wife and many bills but will make a $20.00 payment towards my $100.00 pledge to help. I get paid on May 15th, just once per month, I teach art to 6-12 grade students in SW Kansas. I am also running for state rep. in district 124. And no one has contributed any money yet for my campaign where I live. So it is common everywhere.
Paid for by the Committee to Elect Jeffrey Locke State Rep. Kevin Wagner Treasurer.

Do you have a way to do PayPal? This may help with the digital age folks... It is easy to setup and do a private or friend to friend transaction.

While I don't disagree with the sentiment, In the original thread where donations were asked for, only ~12-14 folks committed to sending checks. I am as pleased that it seemed like everyone who committed followed through as I am sad that more people haven't stepped up. I do understand that $100 will go a long ways towards daily expenses, but don't be afraid of sending smaller donations. As long as the check doesn't bounce, they will all help.

A while back I was on a handgun only site when I saw a picture of a whitetail taken with a rifle and questioned why.... I was then told that there are guys taking deer to feed their family but were not that good a handgun shot to chance a miss with the pistol.... I was so embarrassed for not realizing this.... The point being.... give what you can.....

As Gregg posted, I was wondering if I was the only one that noticed one of the board experts maybe had entered the witness protection program and couldn't contribute due to us being able to track his address.

Well quit bitching about someone not paying your bills and state who you are even talking about. Some people get a negative vibe at a place and quit posting, some get busy at work. Some just think multiple ownership of a site is a crappy idea that leads to nowhere good. Some dont have a hundred bucks. Sometimes its a litmus test.

Point is u shouldnt be calling out anyone. Theres 10k plus member here and what, 14 checks mailed? Not sure why you think its appropriate to call anyone out. Theres about 9,990 people doing the same at this point but it reminds me of one of the most epic debacles around our small town out here in west texas. Theres a real wealthy oulman that kept his lil church afloat and would make sizeable donations to many local charities including the local boys and girls club. One year they were going to do a building project and set a fundraising goal. He was going to match the half they reached, once they reached it. When word got out he hadnt yet given he got attacked by several locals publicly and in print. He just wanted to see if the community would support it without him doing all the heavy lifting so to speak. It got nasty, they apologiz d when they found out the plan, the damage was done. Several of the locals were members at his church. He moved one of his local businesses, pulled about
900 jobs from the community, pulled his funding from that church and it
Closed and he set up shop in a different nearby community. Point is, when something is offered from the goodness of your heart and its ?extra? not essential giving its best not to guilt and pressure and attack people into participating. Sometimes it degenerates into killing off a life saving maneuver so to speak. My prediction was this would turn ugly. I predicted people would be called out and that doesnt count further funding in the future and the multiple ownership by many people. Gregg posed a little call out earlier but very nonspecifically, but a call out nonetheless. What u are posing subscriber could apply to several people. None of whom have an obligation to do anything! Its something u get out of kindness, not call outs.

If there is indeed 10K members, wouldn't a $1 donation from each cover the entire cost including what Gregg has voluntarily agreed to put up? I felt a hole in my heart when HHI shut down, but found some consolation in this site now only to have it go down as well. Yes, I sent a check. No, I'm not calling anybody out. Please send what you can, if you can, when you can.

So, let me see if I get this right because I'm a simple man. First, I never actually called out anyone that hadn't already been hinted at. Maybe your comprehension skills didn't pick that up. Second, apparently YOU think its ok to call me out when in all actuality the post was never directed at you. Before you say its an open forum remember that works for me too. Next, if the person in question intentions was to "wait and see" they wouldn't have quit posting and maybe could have stated their nobel intentions. Even if they are sooo busy this rescue effort has been going on for over a month. Come on, nobody is that busy especially when they used to post their wit and wisdom practically every day prior to the call for support. I agree with you (believe it or not) that no one has an obligation to participate but you would think if they have used the site to sell their products in the past they might want to pay it forward, right? I know I'll never shame them into contributing if they don't feel like it, and that's really not what I'm trying to do, but I do think if they don't want to join in financially they should stay gone. That's my point.

Over the years that I have enjoyed this site, one thing stood out. It wasn't the inspiring stories or the wealth of info, it was the camaraderie and the absence of the bitching, trolling, name calling and general nastiness that plagues almost every other forum on the net. On this forum we are all friends (admittedly all of us can have our bad days - we are after all human. Lets keep it friendly.

While I've been able to contribute, I don't begrudge those who haven't. We all have priorities, needs and obligations. There have been times in life when I haven't had enough money to spare to be able to donate to anything so I understand those who can't. Lets just be grateful that there are some who can and that hopefully the site will continue.

ps. I'm not too fussed over possible future ownership structure. I just contributed so that there is a future.

Im not actually sure who you are referring to. It could be several people. That said, i also fit the bill to the earlier alluded to post.

[quote=ScoutV2]Do you have a way to do PayPal? This may help with the digital age folks... It is easy to setup and do a private or friend to friend transaction.

I quoted a PM sent to me, and said it fit. Wasn't calling anybody out. Some here are simply stating what they feel is important to them because they are true and are human.
