Thinking of building a Encore in 7mm-08. Other than stainless and going with the shortest barrel to get good accuracy. What barrel, brake(if needed) grip, or other options/mods ? Pictures of your setup would be helpful.

http://www.handgunhunt.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=1051&ppuser=514Theres mine. If a full time hunting gun, id consider pachmayr rubber if you could find it. I dont need a brake on it. Lotta options and decisions,Too many to list. You could brake one and get by with a riflescope also.
Kentucky….no place like home.

Other than stainless and going with the shortest barrel to get good accuracy. Barrel length won't affect accuracy as much as velocity, which could be related. I had a 10" 7-30 Waters barrel that would shoot lights out, but was slow as molasses in January. Went to a 13" and gained about 300 fps. With the 7-08 I would want at least 13" or more if you don't mind the size of the package.
Rod, too.
Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

I have a 15 inch factory barrel and really like it. I'm using 140 grain Nosler Ballistic Tips in mine. No brake.

I have a buddy that has a factory Pro Hunter SS Barrel with a Leopold base and rings. New brass and bullets that could be had very reasonable.
If it jams force it! If it breaks it needed replacing anyway.

Probably won't need a brake; depends on each individual's recoil sensitivity. My DIL has a .243 with a brake.
I have had ladies show up to hunt 'Lopers with .308's; no brake.
Good luck on your progress; keep in touch!

Can't help you with the 7mm-08 (even though I'd love one), but I will suggest a 15" barrel, preferably with a heavy taper or full bull contour. If you're interested in something a bit more handy and are willing to sacrifice a little velocity, I've found 12" barrels to be a pretty good balance.

Here is the one I set up for my neighbor. He wanted something with a little distance but easy to reload. Had the break put on and it is like shooting a .243 bull barrel. I load 140 Nosler Ballistic tips and Varget for his rig. With the break and the weight of the 3x12 Burris it is a piece of cake. Mike
