Looking to purchase a set, or two, of rings to hold a scope securely in a Weaver-style base. This is for an Encore 445 Super Mag. Thanks.

Offshore All of my boomers (Contender/Encore) sport the SSK TSOB base, I use 3 Warne steel 1-inch fixed Medium rings. I use the same 3 ring setup on my BFR?s with the factory supplied base. B..

I have switched to the 3 vertical split ring set up as well. Warne's are great and Leupold's will work too.

I SWEAR BY THE WARNE MAXIMA RINGS AND YOU USUALLY CAN GET 3 ON A SCOPE.

I like 3 or 4 Weigand Mag Rings.
It takes 43 muscles to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger squeeze.

I SWEAR BY THE WARNE MAXIMA RINGS AND YOU USUALLY CAN GET 3 ON A SCOPE. They are the only rings I have found (and I have tried 'em all including the ones made out of country) that have such good tolerances that they usually will not mar the scopes.

Leupold vertical split rings, as many as you can fit on it.
Rod, too.
Short cuts often lead to long recoveries.

Thanks for all the replies, fellas. Looks like the Warren Rings are on the top thus far. I plan on putting at least three rings on the base/scope. It is a Leupold VX-3 scope on a MGM base and barrel and I believe I will have the room.

Offshore, here's a little food for thought. There is a Big difference between Warnes standard rings and their Tactical ones. I have 2 Tactical Warne Rings on my SSK Encore pistol in 500 S&W. I've put about 350 full load rounds through it. The scope ain't going anywhere

I like the Weigand Magnum rings. 3 or 4 if you can fit the 4th. I usually use 3 - 2 in the front - one in the rear.

I've put about 350 full load rounds through it. The scope ain't going anywhere Besides "holding power" also realize that more rings also help minimize scope flexing under heavy recoil. I once posted a link to a slo-mo film showing how much a scope tube vibrates and flexes during recoil. Which stresses the scope innards of course. More or less if you can get 3 or four scope rings on the scope it is a very good idea to do it on the heavies. Besides additional and fail-safe holding power, this decreases odds of the scope failing.

You are welcome. Here is that link on scope tube flex. SCOPE TUBE FLEX"An object at rest tends to stay at rest." A Law Of Physics This is just straight back recoil; on a heavy recoiling handgun I suspect the flex would be just as bad or worse as the gun movement is much more vicious and more pronounced.

I've used a few different types of rings on different guns, but on my heavy kickers I prefer vertical split steel rings, especially Warne.

Thanks for all the replies. I ordered 2 sets of the Warne Maximas today. . .Amazon has a pretty good deal on them. Now I need to locate my scope. I'm looking for a Leupold VX-3 2.5-8x32 in matte black if anyone has one they would like to part with??? Thanks again everyone.

OFFSHORE: THERE IS A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN A VX-3 AND A VX-III, ONE IS A LITTLE BETTER. I DO NOT RECALL WHICH IT IS, BUT IT WAS DISCUSSED IN A PRIOR TOPIC.

Well, the brown Santa Clause (UPS man) brought me some goodies yesterday. . .a new Leupold VX3 scope and two sets of Warne Maxima rings! I had to change my MGM base out for another one in order to get three rings to mount correctly on there, but I got it done and my Encore looks pretty sweet. I must say, those Warne rings were the BIGGEST pain it the ass ever to install! I almost started using my "creative vocabulary", but I got them on there and I believe they're gonna be the ticket, they feel pretty stout. Providing Mother Nature doesn't have too many ill plans this weekend I plan on getting out to the woods and sight this thing in. If I could post pictures to this site I would share my shooting iron. I'll keep yo all posted on my range time. Thaks for all the input.

WITH THE WARNE RINGS I ALTERNATE TIGHTENING THE LOWER AND TOP SCREWS SOME BUT FULLY TIGHTEN THE LOWER ONES FIRST.

WITH THE WARNE RINGS I ALTERNATE TIGHTENING THE LOWER AND TOP SCREWS SOME BUT FULLY TIGHTEN THE LOWER ONES FIRST. After getting them on the scope and the slot inserts back in and keeping everything in place on the base, I snugged up the bottom screws just enough to keep things together. Then I set my eye relief and put my scope leveler on to get things square. Then I did as you mentioned and went around alternating screws a little bit at a time until all were tight and scope was level with my base. So far things are looking pretty good to shoot this weekend. Fingers crossed!
