Sorry I keep posting different post but I cant find what Im looking for.

I have a 444 Marlin CVA Pistol, barrel length 12in. Im looking for around 1900fps. I now have a local reloader who has agreed to assemble some rounds for me. I now need to pick a projectile.

I have previously been shooting the Hornady Leverevolution 265gr factory load. Problem is it is not expanding in the lower velocity of the handgun.

I was settled on the Speer DeepCurl 270gr SP but it is EXTREMELY HARD to find and I do not want to get a round that I cant reproduce in the future.

SOOO all that being said... What .429 projectile FOR DEER (North West Georgia). I am looking for more expansion than penetration.

I will probably never be able to afford a big game hunt. If the time ever does come I will get a different load created.

How about one of the Swift A-frame varieties? Extremely well built bullet and would be catastrophic at the velocities you are trying to achieve.

That Sierra bullet out of the 444 Marlin would be devastating...should blow some hella huge holes in deer...the 350 gr. .500 version out of my Encore is only a little short of being a grenade

The Swift A frame seems to be the go to Bullet for many of the hunters that have taken much game. I am sure it would work for you. I would also suggest trying the 300 grain Hornady XTP in your 444. It will give you close the velocity of the 240 bullets with better downrange energy.

You might find the Scooter Backfired channel on Youtube interesting. Do a search for his 444 Marlin videos. He has many bullet tests firing into water filled milk jugs. He is testing with a rifle and most of his tests are at rifle velocities. He also does many tests with the same bullet at much lower velocities to see how the bullets perform on shots from 150-200 yards. Many of those velocities would probably be close to the impact velocities you would experience with a handgun length 444 Marlin barrel under 100 yards. Velocities that high might be too much for the Remington 240gr SJHP but the Remington 240gr JSP he tested at 1568fps was very impressive.

Yes. That bullet is very soft. Even out of 44 magnums it sort of granades.

Thanks! I checked it out. He has a bunch of them! I think I?m going to give these a try. He said they have the best low and high velocity expansion consistentsy of all the bullets he tested. One was at 1635fps and still had over .7 diameter expansion with 95% weight retention

The 280 gr. A-Frame is a hard bullet to beat for a mid weight .44 bullet. The 300 gr. XTP is my hands down favorite out of my muzzleloader at 1910 fps. I get great expansion and penetration from up close out to 175 yds. at that velocity. Another good .44 bullet for me out of my RSBH is the Sierra TournamentMaster 250 gr. bullet. I get very good accuracy and expansion at 1300 fps. It is a full profile jacket, but there is a slight exposed lead hollow point which is just enough to get the job done. You have a gang of bullets to choose from out there. . .just need to find one your gun really likes. Good luck.
