I know there are no absolutes, but will a 300 gr Hornady XTP at 44 mag velocity have bullet pass through with a shoulder shot on large hogs? If not, is there a jacketed bullet that you can recommend that will? Thank you

Gsj - a lot of variables to your question, but the simple answer is, yes absolutely it CAN.
But like I said, there are a lot of variables. Leg positioning, distance to the swine, amount of fat/mud/etc, hog size...you get the drift.
Regardless, I think your choice is a good one. If you want a 'more likely' pass-through scenario then I'd suggest a hard cast.

I've seen 300 gr XTP's give tremendous performance on game larger than deer in the 44 Mag..Given the load was 24.5 gr of H110...Fury Custom Bullets makes a great 300 gr bullet in 44 that is a little more stout than the XTP...I'd say give Dennis a call at Fury Custom Bullets last

Lynn Thompson killed MANY Australian Water Buffalo and big wild boar with the 300 XTP 44 mag from a Ruger Redhawk....if I'm not mistaken, he had some exits on the buffalo and many exits on the boar.

I have not shot the 300 XTP from a handgun on a game animale, but I do use it in my muzzleloader at 1910 fps with great success on deer and hogs. I even shot a rank bull that my neighbor asked me to dispatch for her and it went completely through his neck at 83 yards. . .I was impressed!
If a hardcast bullet is not your forte I would look hard at the 280gr. or 300gr. Swift A-Frame. I like these bullets alot, just can't afford to shoot them as often as I would like to. I have not shot the Fury line of bullets, but have read good things about them and did chat with Dennis one time about his bullets. He can tailor a bullet for you to pretty much take care of any of your needs. Good luck.

I know its a little different but my .480 Ruger with factory Hornady 325g XTP blew thru a big hog. High shoulder shot, posted a video here too.
