After last deer season I set a goal for myself - Get the Glock 20 where I could shoot with it again, or move it down the road. I spent March and April shooting the gun extensively and came to a conclusion ... she's got to go. I just couldnt hit a damned thing with it anymore.
So, what I needed was:
1. a gun with about the same footprint as the Glock
2. a gun that wasnt too heavy
3. a gun with enough power to punch a hole in a hog or a deer
My initial thought was a GP100 in .357 or 44. Special ... it fit the parameters I'd set. Then I got to thinking - I dont own a S&W and everybody should - so a 686 jumped on the list. I stopped by a Big Box Store on the coast that I knew kept revolvers around and was able to handle a GP and a 686. Honestly, neither really set me on fire and I wasnt going to buy from them as the prices are insane. I then noticed another Smith that looked interesting ... a Model 69. Once the gun hit my hand I knew I had to have one.
I called my buddy with a FFL and we made a deal that left the Glock with him and a new Model 69 with me. With iron sights this gun shoots to 1" using a load of 10.5 Unique under a Bayou 215 grain boolit at 15 yards. My chrono says I'm getting 1107 fps which yields 577ftlbs of energy.
I now have a woods carry that is just the right size, has power to spare, and is accurate. 44Mags seem to be multiplying around my house!!
