Does anyone here hunts with swc? Reason why I ask is I am have a quest to score a kill this coming season with my Dan Wesson using the iron sights. Regular hornady jacketed bullets are for to expensive for me to be practicing with for this purpose. I am working up a load using semi wad cutters. Does anyone have a hunting load that they would like to share?

I have taken 4 really nice 8 point whitetails with 158 gr. SWCs in my Python, plus several does. My all time longest handgun deer shot was a crop damage doe at 201 yds. with my Python and an AimPoint. I dead centered the rectum. The bullet was under the skin of the chest, undeformed. Probably a very lucky shot, but I'll take it.
I've also taken many deer with SWCs in .41 Mag., .44 Mag, .454 Casull, and .500 S&W. Lead SWCs with really big meplats do unbelievable damage to deer.
Be glad to share load info with you. PM me.
An interesting note: my Dan Wesson .44 Pistol Pac (4",6",8") does not shoot lead bullets very well. My Colts, Rugers, and FAs all do very well.

I have never hunted with a DW, but my .480 Ruger BFR does very well with cast SWC bullets.

If possible choose a "Flatbase" bullet or if you want go with a Gas Check. Reason I mention this, is many cast SWCs have a bevel base in the 158gr. I have found that the bevel base do not seem to be quite as accurate as the Flat Base. I killed 2 deer last year with SWCs in my 45. Keith style bullets work well but shot placement is paramount.
Good Luck on you hunt.

I would also recommend a Gas Check Bullet with a good size meplat.
For powders H110 would be my first choices in a 357 Magnum, probably followed by 300MP.
I am not sure how much cheaper the 158 GC Bullets will be if you are not set up to cast them.
