Can anyone tell me if either the newest Barnes manual or the 460 Loadbooks has good data for loading with the 275 XPB? I'd like to try this bullet, but online information is pretty anemic. Thank you.

Send an email to tech support at Barnes with a request for the bullet in 460.
If they have anything they may share, and it lets them know where they need to develop more.

Hogdon has quite a bit of data for that bullet.

I HAVE SOME CORBON AMMO WITH THAT POINTED 275 BUT HAVE NEVER SHOT ANYTHING WITH IT. AS I RECALL WHEN I CHRONO'ed IT IT WAS IN THE 1,700fps RANGE. HAS ANYONE OUT THERE SHOT ANYTHING WITH THESE BULLETS? THOSE BULLET TAKE UP A LOT OF CASE.

RANDY: MAYBE YOU OUGHT TO TRY THE SWIFT 265's OR THE BARNES 250?

Ok so I finally found a few loads in a Lyman book. With H110 it lists 38.2 as a max load. Book says 2029 fps out of 10" barrel. I don't own a chronograph so I'm guessing the 8 3/8 XVR will be in the 1800-1900 range. Again that is max load so I'll probably start at 38.1 hehe. This is with the 275 Barnes XPB.

I really want to maximize the potential of this gun. I DON'T want to end up with .454 ballistics in a .460 case... Nothing wrong with a .454. But I bought this for the extra umph it's capable of.

Appreciate everyone's help.

Karl-took your advice and emailed them today. Waiting on a response.

Tradmark-Hodgdon lists nothing for the 275 XPB that I can find.

Rey-I just might if I can't find my happy place with the 275s.

RANDY: IN YOUR GUN THE "EXTRA UMPH" SHUD BE IN THE 200 - 300 FPS RANGE, MAS O MENOS, MORE OR LESS FOR YOU NON-TEXANS.

am not at home and don't have my Barnes book with me. You probably could call Barnes or Email them, before I could check for you. SO sent you a PM.

I will mention this here on the forum.... Your cylinder gap (If it is big such as a .010 like some of S&Ws X-Frames were,,,) will cause you to loose a little velocity and depending upon the barrel weather it is fast or slow will make a difference. SO when you chronograph keep this in mind.

Loaddata.com has about the same as what is mentioned above. Some of the Barnes data list a little over 2000 fps with AA-9 (38 grains is max) powder. That's with a 8.4" barrel.

As far as the 275 Barnes XPB, I'm shooting them out of a bolt action 450 Bushmaster at 2300 fps and they expanded picture perfect, went through both shoulders of my hog, and I found it in the hard clay bank behind where the pig was standing. Pig was 150-200 yards so impact velocity was probably down pretty close to what you would be getting for impact velocity at shorter pistol ranges. I'd think the bullet would still open up well at the speeds you should be getting with the ability of the 460 to stretch effective ranges farther than most revolvers.

Eric.

I was gonna mention that charles. May affect what u get. Between me and my son we have taken a waterbuff, a lion, blue wildebeest, and an impala. The loads were federal factory loads at an avg of about 1850 fps. Nearly 2000 fps out of my bfr. If u pm me a cell number i will send u some hogdon data i have.

Measured cylinder gap at .005. Not bad.

Ordered a chronograph yesterday. It never ends does it...

nah, if it ended it would be boring. What would we have to talk about then?

While not strictly necessary, a chronograph is a great tool to help on your quest.

Guy from Wyoming over on the S&W Forum killed a BISON with the

Barnes 275gr bullet in Corbon Amo... Gun was a S&W PC 460Magnum.

Revolver had a 10 1/2'' barrel... Very interesting read... Ammo

performed well

I LOOKED AT THE S&W FORUM POST, NOT SURE I LIKE HOW THE 2 RECOVERED BULLETS LOOKED.
