I have a scoped 686 with an 8 3/8" barrel that I am thinking of trying for deer hunting this year. I have a good supply of Remington 180gr Factory loads and was thinking of using these.
Opinions on these rounds or should I order some Underwood etc?

Put them behind the front leg and collect your deer. They will work just fine.

ln 1935 Maj D.B.Wessson went West with the new SMITH&WESSON 357Magnum.

0n that trip he killed EVERY Big Game animal in North America.

lncluding all the bear species except Polar Bear.. His ammo was

158gr SWC 357 Magnum R-P...

l know people have gotten bigger in the last 80+ yrs since then..

l doubt Big Game has gotten any bigger or tougher tho..

Likely your 686 will do fine for deer as long as the bullet is

put in the RIGHT LOCATION

sw282 nailed it, placement & penetration, repeat 10 times! That 357 will work just fine with those 180 gr loads.

I have killed hogs, feral sheep, and deer with the .357. A good bullet in the right spot is the key.

A 686 with a 8 3/8 barrel is a firearm I'd love to own.
