I began noticing last week that I couldn't find CVA Optima V2 muzzleloader pistols in stock on several websites, so Friday night I emailed CVA asking about it. They told me they've discontinued making the Optima pistol. If you've been considering buying one but haven't yet, now is the time to get one before they're gone for good.

Update: I emailed them again asking about their Scout V2 centerfire pistols, and they?ve discontinued them as well. CVA is no longer making handguns of any type.

I just bought a NIB 50 cal muzzle loader last night. Out the door price was $275.00. I was looking for either the muzzle loader or one in 243.

CVA should have consulted with someone like Mark Hampton to start with. I am sure that he would have told them to put better grips and forend on the pistols before putting them on the market. Probably making it a switch barrel like an Encore would have been mentioned also.

They got the mechanics right. It works well, and has a good trigger out of the box, and is plenty stout. The price was another good selling point.

And last they did a poor job picking the chamberings.

The 300 BO probably could have been skipped.

The 357 Magnum should have been 357 Maximum.
The 44 Magnum was ok.
The 50 BP was as good as it gets for that market.

The 223 should have worked fine.
The 243 is OK, but not a first choice for hunting.
They really dropped the ball not chambering it in 260 Remington, 7-08, and 308.

They should have hung in longer working on sales.

I agree. I have the 44 and sent it to Mike Bellm to be rechambered to 444 Marlin and get ported. It is one heck of a hand cannon now. Everyone that I have handed it to has rung 8 inch steel at 100 yards on the first shot. I did take the power sander and hack saw to the grips to remove the edges beside the trigger guard. Every time I would shoot in the stout 444 it would rip my middle finger open just under the trigger guard. It is SOOOO much better after this modification!

I love my V2 muzzleloader pistol. It?s a great gun and a great value. Sad to see them go away.

I also love my V2 muzzleloader pistol. I also got a 357 mag before they were gone.

How does the 243 do in a 14" barrel? It's a helluva bargain at the prices I'm seeing.

I really like mine and have taken a few deer with it and 85gr Sierra HPBT-GK handloads.

DANG!!! Kicking myself for not getting the 357 before now! I wish I had one it would be a perfect platform to send to Mike Bellm for a 357 Max conversion. Maybe I will be able to find one on the secondary market at some point...
