Four years ago I lost a good whitetail buck to a .45 Super load with a 230 gr. xtp at 1100 fps. From 10 yards away, I saw the bullet hit at the rear crease of his shoulder. I found a small amount of blood, but never found the buck. Sick and disappointed from this experience, I worked up a load with a 250 gr. WFNGC at 1100 fps and hunted for another opportunity to try the .45 Super on a whitetail. Opening day of this season brought a good opportunity. The small buck pictured on the Bragging Board walked under my stand and stopped quartering away at 10 yards in front of me. I took the shot with a Baer longslide 1911 and Eotech MRDS, and he dropped in his tracks from a high shoulder shot. The .45 Super had redeemed itself in my mind with this load, and perhaps I redeemed myself a little too.

Congratulations on the Buck. Thanks for the info on the 230 gr XTP, as well as the cast bullet.

Congratulations! I think you ran the xtp too fast in the Super causing it to fragment with little penetration.

It's not the gun, but the man behind it.

Sawfish, the only feeding problem I have had is occasionally the last round in a 7 round magazine will nosedive and not feed. Otherwise, no problems at all. This is true with 3 different 1911s, not just one gun. Nothing special has been done to any gun, other than stronger springs and flat bottomed firing pin stops.

Thanks. I have killed a couple of pigs with my 45s using the WW 230 gr JHP, and a Whitetail is next on the list. I can see a long slide in my future.
