No I do not. I grab a rest on anything I can.The only free hand shooting I do is finishing a wounded deer up very close. I always have something to rest on in my stands. Walking stick, pull up rope, tree, side of stand.

I always shoot free hand. I will shoot out to about 150 yards or so depending on the cartridge i am using. Some out to 50-75 at nest.

It really depends on the gun.... I wouldn't hesitate to shoot my 45 super 50 yards offhand but I've shot it from 7-75 offhand a lot since it's also my concealed carry gun. I have a whole lot of rounds through it and can take the brass off a 410 she'll at 20 with it about 60% of the time and a popcan is an easy target at 50. But I wouldn't shoot my contender any distance without a rest the whole scope thing makes it to iffy and the 223 and 45/70 barrels I have are far to heavy to try to shoot without a rest. But I always prefer a rest even if it's just the back of my hand against a tree.

SOME QUICK THOUGHTS: I USE A REST WHENEVER I CAN. WITH OPEN SIGHTS, FREEHAND, 50 - 75 YARDS MAX, AND ABOVE 60 IS "PUSHING IT" FOR ME. SCOPES HAVE A LOT OF "WOBBLE" FREEHAND, ESPECIALLY @ 4x AND ABOVE. TRADMARK USES RED DOTS A LOT AND SHOOTS A LOT. I HAVE NOT USED RED DOTS BUT AM GIVING THEM SOME THOUGHT. TO SHOOT PROFICIENTLY FREEHAND TAKES A LOT MORE PRACTICE THAN SHOOTING OFF OF A REST, REGARDLESS OF THE SIGHTING SYSTEM YOU USE.
"ADAPT OR DIE". I USE ALL CAPS, NOT BECAUSE I AM YELLING, BUT BECAUSE IT IS AN OLD HABIT FROM MY ARMY DAYS, PLUS IT IS EASIER TO TYPE AND READ.

Seldom, but my max open sited range is 50yds. As Rey said, I always 'rest' when I can.
It's not the gun, but the man behind it.

Reason why I ask is sometimes shooting out of a small lock on stand is tuff. My furthest shot would be about 60 yards max. Of course I would be shooting open sights

If I have a choice I always use a rest & I think most others do to, why wouldn't we? There are times we don't have time & then you have a decision to make, am I capable of making the shot or do I pass. Everyone should put in the time to become proficient offhand & that takes a lot of shooting, there are no short cuts. A good trigger is important because if you start running at the trigger your offhand shooting doesn't have much of a chance. I shoot Ground Squirrels all summer off hand & it really helps but you have to practice constantly.

Dick True words.... I realized just how bad a off hand shot I am after a recent trip to a indoor 25yd range shooting open sights.... I spend money to improve the type of iron sights my revolvers wear to help my eyes line everything up... 50 yards is my limit...

I will shoot offhand to approx. 60 yds. if the situation is required. I do shoot offhand 1 or 2 times a week mostly all year round. Almost anything can be used as a rest, perhaps I don't practice that enough.

I have some guns I will shoot 100 yards with freehand and some I wont attempt anything over 50 yards freehand. When I can I grab a rest.

I practice with my air pistol in the summer time. My freehand gun is my 715 Dan Wesson. I practice shooting clay pigeons at 100 yards. I find strength exercises help a lot along with a good smooth trigger
