I found a good deal on a silver finished Burris Posi-loc 1.5-4 handgun scope. My research indicates this scope hasn't been made for quite a while and the opinions run the gamut from "works great" to "they're crap!". I found an old thread from our friend James from Jersey asking about one of these years ago, but I didn't see an update. Does anyone have any info they can share on this model? I could likely get this one for around $65 and it would be used on a .223 or .35 Rem (someday 358 JDJ!) barreled Contender. Thanks everyone!

John, I had the same silver Burris 1.5-4X and took it to the range mounted on a 44 and found the crosshair had broke in the center. Sent it back to Burris who repaired it free of charge and it worked fine.. I eventually sold it to buy a Leupold 2.5-8... Best of luck....

I HAD CROSSHAIRS FAIL IN POSILOCKS I HAD ON HEAVY KICKING REVOLVERS, I WOULD NOT TRUST THEM ON HEAVY KICKERS.

I appreciate the input guys. This scope is used and has been through a few people, but all claim to not have actually used it. I'm a bit suspicious and don't want a "project" scope, even at a good price. I'll likely pass at this point. Take care gents!

Buy it, if it is at a good price. If it has problems, return to Burris under their lifetime warranty. They will either repair or replace. Never had a problem with Posi-Lock scopes.
PS: I have this same scope on my Raging Bulls in 454 Casull and 480 Ruger with no problems.

"Cheap" scopes are too expensive. Buy a 2X or 4X Leupold or a 2-6X Bushnell.

At $65 buy it. If anything is wrong with it send it back. I have been impressed with the newer scopes it will probably be replaced with if it does have a problem.

AT $65 IT IS TEMPTING BUT DOWNTIME ON A SCOPE, SHIPPING 'EM, etc. HAS ITS HIDDEN COSTS, PLUS WITH MURPHY'S LAW IT WILL BREAK WHEN YOU LEAST EXPECT IT/NEED IT THE MOST.

No comments on the burris, but for a .223 or 35 rem you'll be much happier with a 2-6, 2.5-7 or 2.5-8. The Simmons gold medal 2.5-7 was a rock solid handgun scope and if you can find one reasonably priced I wouldn't hesitate to get one.
I agree on the cheap scope comment, especially for handguns. Stick with scopes that have a reputation for holding up to the recoil, and pay what they cost.

I was pretty happy with my 1.5 x 4 Burris scopes. During one of the NAHHC hunts at the YO Ranch, I was hunting with Pat Beckett of Burris, and he asked me how I liked the 1.5 x 4 Burris. I told him that I liked it fine because of its wide field of view at low power. He was using a 2 x 7 and told me that it had the same field of view at low power as the 1.5 x 4, plus additional magnification in a more compact scope. I looked through his 2 x 7, and right then and there, made the 2 x 7 Burris my number one HG scope.

I never had a problem with any Burris handgun scope, I've owned both posi lock and non posi lock, but I agree the 2-7X is my choice, and I find the 2X setting is better in that last 10 minutes of legal light over the 1.5X in the 1-4X.
I have well over 1000 rounds of brutal 460 loads on the one I have on the Encore with zero failures over the past 8 years. Thats cheaper the tasco used to be, Buy it!
