This is my first kill with my S&W 629 Classic topped with an UltraDot 30. I was out at our ranch filling the deer feeders, and when I made the turn in the road to fill the last one, 4 pigs all the same size scampered into the brush. Three of them kept going, but this one stopped in a cedar bush with only his legs visible. I threw the truck in park, grabbed my gun off of the seat, and jumped out with the intent to pursue them when "this little piggy" turned back to face the feeder. I changed my mind about the pursuit, and instead stood on the running board in order to rest my right arm on the roof of the truck. I guess the allure of the corn under the feeder was greater than his fear of danger, because within seconds he trotted back towards the feeder. There was a three foot opening between the cedar bush he was standing in, and a large cactus closer to the feeder. He crossed the opening without stopping, but did pause on the far side of the cactus with his rear covered by a cactus leaf and his nose covered as well. The dot from the sight naturally found it's mark on the shoulder, and without thinking about pulling the trigger it just happened. The pig just fell over. I covered the 40 steps to him quickly, just in case I botched the shot, but no need as the bullet hit him high shoulder and he expired within seconds, only giving a few kicks with his hind leg. This was a "eating size" pig. I finished filling the feeder, and loaded him up. Took him back to the camp house where I cleaned him and cut him in half. We BBQ'd the whole thing on the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Yeah, he was an "eating size" pig!
I have come to really like this revolver and how I have it set up with the UlraDot. I think I would prefer to swap out the 4 MOA dot with the 2 MOA that is available with the Matchdot, but for now I'll stick with this setup. My load is a 240gr XTP, 12.0 grains Longshot, Fed 150 primer. The 6 1/2 inch barrel spits this load out at 1200 fps, and expansion testing at 50 yards has proven positive. It's handy, accurate, easy to shoot, and doesn't beat you up. Yeah, I like it.
