Went out this morning for the first time for late muzzle loader season. I hunt this season with my Ruger Super Blackhawk Bisley Hunter in 44 MAG with a Bushnell elite 2-6X32 scope. I use Hornady LeveRevolution 225gr FTX ammo. I have 2 doe tags to fill for this season.

I got out to one of the spots I like to sit in the timber about 6:40 am and settled in. Saw nothing til almost 8 am. I was standing/stretching and just looking around when off to my left out of the corner of my eye I thought I saw movement. I just stood there not moving a muscle looking to the left and sure enough, this decent sized doe was back behind me doing that slow walk, stop, walk, stop thing they do. She was only about 35-40 yards off behind my left shoulder. I waited for her to get her head behind a tree and drew out the Ruger slowly and cocked the hammer back. I picked out a nice opening she was heading for and raised the gun and just stood there and waited til she got into that opening. She was only between 25-30 yards from me at this point. Had the scope set on 2 power and settled the cross hairs on her shoulder and squeezed off the shot. I knew instantly I hit her pretty good. I saw that typical "flinch" they do when they're hit. She only ran about 25-30 yards away and crashed. Personally I find handgun hunting just as exciting as bow hunting. Enjoy the pics guys.

Great hunt and good shooting! Were you sitting on the ground or in a deer stand of some type?

How do you like your Bushnell Elite 2 x 6 scope?

Congrats! Tell us what type performance you got from the FTX bullet (obviously it worked), but .....

It takes 43 muscles to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger squeeze.

I have a similar setup and missed a doe recently. I think my scope may have been touching the rear sight. I had a Simmon 2-6x32 and the optics were poor. I upgraded to a Leupold since Cabela's had them on sale. In mounting I had to take the rear sight off and the larger bell was still hitting the front sight based on the factory ring position. I have a Weigland rail on order so that should fix any issue with height and spacing. It also allows me to re-install the front sight for asthetic reasons. Did you have any issues like this? And does anyone know of a blank to install in the front sight location for SBHHBisley?

First Handgun Deer: ~1982 8" S&W .38Spl
SW 7.5" 686-7 with Matchdot II
SBHH .45LC 7.5"
Contender G2 .35-30/30 (Bellm), .22LR, .22 Hornet, 25-35
Glock 40 10mm; G21 Poly80 w/ 9 inch barrel (in work)

I was just ground hunting while using blown down trees and brush for cover.

I had to take off the rear sight to mount my scope and it barely fits behind the front sight but I did manage to get it mounted w/o touching anything it shouldn't.

IA-That's a huge doe.. You did well..

l have the same optics on my SBH Hunter in 41Magnum... l removed
both front AND rear sights.. l like the Bushnell 2-6 because of
its easily adjustable rear focus.
However, l don't like it as well as a Leupold 2X EER on my S&W 629 Light Hunter.

Outstanding. Great story and good shooting. I have one of the Ruger Blackhawk Hunters in 45 LC and my Simmons scope is touching my front sight and I had to run my back site down all of the way and the eye piece sets on it. No problems so far.
I'm shooting 300 grn WFNGC bullets from Beartooth. Shoots great.
I'm taking it this weekend on our antlerless hunt in Oklahoma and then to Kansas to fill my antlerless special hunt tag after the first of the year.

In North Carolina we can not hunt with a center fire handgun during muzzle loader season. That is what my CVA Optima V2 is for.
