I had the honor of wringing out the prototype and got the opportunity to kill the first head of game with it and it's a winner.

FYI, BASED UPON MY RECOLLECTIONS FROM THE OLD YO HANDGUN HUNTS, THE "F" IN BFR DOES NOT STAND FOR FRAME OR FINEST, THE WORD STARTS WITH AN F, ENDS WITH A G, AND HAS A K IN THERE TOO, BUT BEST JUST TO SAY "BFR".

That was in the early days of the BFR, Rey!

I think BFRs are the absolute best bang for the buck. They keep making significant refinements to these great revolvers.

Was thinking about holding out when I heard about this at an event at the Whittington Center earlier this year but went ahead and got the 500JRH instead. I guess I have to start saving again since now I want one LOL.

While I really like them both, when I went through the safari course at the FTW Ranch in Texas, I was doing speed loading drills with the .500 Linebaugh and it was easy getting hung-up while trying to extract the big, garbage can-like cases of the .500 Linebaugh. The .500 JRH is easier to extract in a hurry. Not picking nits, just making an observation.

That is going to be one pretty ass revolver!

All depends on if I build a deck and garage this year. I'm thinking the gun is more important. It would look nice beside my 45-70 bfr as well.

MAX: BIG F.....G REVOLVER WAS NOT A USED AS A SLIGHT TO THE BFR, IT WAS MORE A REFERENCE TO THE THEN NEW STRETCH FRAME 30-30, 45-70 TYPE REVOLVERS, AND WAS A TERM USED BY ONE OR MORE MAGNUM RESEARCH HONCHOS. IF I WAS JUST STARTING INTO BIB BORE REVOLVER HUNTING I WOULD PROBABLY HAVE A BUNCH OF BFR's.

I know that Rey. That was the term they used back in the D-Max days. I have one of the early ones.

I first heard the phrase "Biggest Finest Revolver" from Jim Skildum then president of Magnum Research during one of the old NAHHC handgun hunts at the YO Ranch. This was prior to the introduction of the new BFR frame sometime in the early nineties, or thereabouts.

Well, I've found a few online, but only the 7.5" tube with the ivory grips.

I believe I'm going to order one from the precision center instead. 6" barrel, case hardened frame, grip and hammer.

The only thing I'm unsure about are the grips. I really like the black micarta but the rubber grips may be more friendly if I ever feel the need to run it wide open. I believe my loads will be a 450 around 1100 and a 525 at 950-1000. Not top end.

What say you all as far as grips are concerned? The bisley is odd to me, but I got used to it on my 454 Ruger while running 335's at 1500 fps. The bfr bisley looks to be more comfortable than ruger's bisley.

Advise me ole great ones. I want to get it right from the start.

Having a 1982 vintage Ruger SBH 44 with wooden grips always seemed to have a little sting to my small frame hands. Therefore, when I went to the BFR (454-Casull,475-Linebaugh,500-JRH) I opted for the rubber grip on all three. In fact, my 454 being the first BFR I purchased came with the original square style hard rubber grip. The other two came with the newer solid molded rubber grip that comes with a wedge key to take them on and off. I really like these and wanted to keep all equally setup the same so I purchased the newer set for the 454 and made the switch. Sorry I have not shot any with the micarta grip. I?m very happy with the new rubber grip.

I appreciate the feedback Buck. At this point I'm thinking I can always switch the rubber bumpers out if I don't like them and put a nice set of wood grips on there.
