Just picked up a Magnum Research BFR yesterday. It was EXTREMELY greasy and over oiled. I pulled the cylinder pin and did a major cleaning. Now the cylinder will not rotate when cocking the hammer.

This is my first single action so let me know if I?ve done something stupid.

New or used?
Did it rotate fine before the clean and oil?

Is the cylinder pin fully seated?

Used. Yes rotated fine before cleaning. I just looked up the manual and it says a 1/4 turn clockwise to set the pawl. So I don?t really know if I?m not doing that correctly. I did not remove anything other than the cylinder and grips to remove all of the dirty grease and clean the powder residue.

It has a free spin cylinder so I don?t know if that makes a difference on reassembly.

I'd check the cylinder pin to make sure it us fully seated so that the set screw is in the barrel indentation. (See BFR manual online or the one that came with the gun). I had a Ruger seize up because the cylinder was sort of cocked and it would hang up on the forcing cone due to the tight tolerance between the cylinder and the forcing cone, base pin issue. Also, check to make sure that the transfer bar isn't catching on the firing pin. Have seen that this can happen on older more broken in BFR's. Worst comes to worst, send it in and have Magnum Research give it the once over, probably not a bad idea since it is a used gun. Let us know if you get it figured out. Good Shooting.

Just got in touch with Magnum Research. Looks like I will be sending it into them and let them decide what is wrong. Thanks for the help here
