I just picked up an older Contender in 223 with a Burris 2X7 Scope. Overall it's in great shape with a few minor blemishes. I disassembled it today and gave it a good clean and lube.
I got rid of the flimsy old weaver scope base, and installed a shortened picitinny rail with three rings. Now I'm ready to check the scope that was supposedly sighted in for the Hornady 55gr V-MAX bullets that I got in the trade deal. I'm planning on giving this combo a try for this up coming turkey season.

Has anyone else had any experience with this ammo on turkeys?

I used 50 gr. BTs and 50 gr. Horn. SPs in past with less than perfect results. If you hit the wing butt perfectly you'll get the bird, but alert turkeys are tougher than you think. I lost a few and gave up on the .223.
My turkey gun now is a FA .454 with 260 gr. Speer HPs. Damage is not nearly as great as you'd think. After 36 one shot kills with no losses, I think the results speak for themselves.

Thank you Sir. You are the expert and now I have a T/C Contender 223 for sale. ;-)

Now if I use it and one gets away, I'll feel horrible having been forewarned.

Well, I can still use it for fun and squirrels.
