No thanks. Looks a shrunken AR. Why in the world wouldn't they reintroduce the XP that made them and customizers so much $$.

I agree with the "Hitman". This thing looks like an answer to a question that wasn't asked ! Barrel too short and just plain ugly. I spoke with the top Remington guy several years ago when the 50th. anniversary of the XP-100 was coming up. We had several lengthy conversations where I encouraged them to bring back the XP Center Grip as a Custom Shop item using a McMillian stock. He took note of my ideas and I guess this was the result , an "Assault Pistol" !

Who will bring out a "tactical" handgun scope for it?

Im not a black n tactical ar feller.......but add a 15? barrel to that thing, and i think it would be great. The xp is gone, except the most times expensive used market limited availability. Lack of shooter support will likely kill this also. Why reintroduce an xp.....when there is little to no support of any bolt handgun. If there were interest and support, maybe other variations could come later.

If they would offer it in a larger selection of chamberings and with barrels 14-16 inch length, it would be a much more attractive firearm. I mean, a 12 inch barrel can work with bottleneck cartridges, but there is definitely going to be a significant performance loss with the 308, and the 223 in a 10.5 inch barrel is right out. With that in mind, I think the 300 Blackout is the best option at the moment.
I have to wonder though, if this is built on the Remington 700 platform, would it be fairly easy to rebarrel? Perhaps order a 15 inch long barrel in 7mm-08, 338 Federal, or even replace the bolt and make it a WSM or RSAUM chambering?

I am not against chassis set-ups on SP's. I do feel they could have done several things better IMO. At least they are trying, and are actually bringing something out! They should have consulted with a number of people who have consistently used bolt action specialty pistols throughout the years. Longer barrels...15" would have been nice. Left bolt/Left port for the right handed folks (I Love RH Bolt/Port being a lefty). Chambered in a 8T 6.5 Creed would have been smart as well as a fast twist 223.
A fast twist 22-250, 243 Winchester or 6mm Creed would have been an option with a lean to the Creed in 6mm, since they are the cool kids currently.
Almost seems like they are trying to find a way to get around SBR's more than anything...

ERNIE: WHAT IS A "SBR"?
NOT SURE WHAT THEIR TARGET MARKET IS BUT DOES NOT LOOK LIKE ITS HANDGUN HUNTERS. I GUESS ANY NEW HANDGUN IS BETTER THAN NOTHING, BUT THIS ONE DOES NOTHING FOR ME.

Short Barreled Rifle=SBR Sorry I didn't explain. WIKI definition: Short-barreled rifle (SBR) is a legal designation in the United States, referring to a shoulder-fired, rifled firearm, made from a rifle, with a barrel length of less than 16 in (41 cm) or overall length of less than 26 in (66 cm), or a handgun fitted with a buttstock and a barrel of less than 16 inches length. In the United States, an SBR is an item regulated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) as a Title II weapon. In the absence of local laws prohibiting ownership, American civilians may own an SBR provided it is registered with the BATFE, and a $200 tax is paid prior to taking possession of or creating the firearm.

I love my XP. Had it built in .284 and absolutely love it. At Ernie's Wyshot, I made shots with XP100's that I would never have dreamed of. Shot a steel prairie dog at 1176 yards. A gong at what must have been 50+ miles. Picked off prairie dogs at ease between 200 and 300 yards with a 20 Vartarg. These bolt pistols are capable of a LOT more than people give them credit for.
As for this new Remington... I'd try one in the right caliber. I don't like the looks of it, but I'd still try it. I'd send it off immediatly and have it changed to a 223 or a 243.

Mark should have one in hand shortly to work with.
As was said above the 300 BO version should work ok with just a trigger.
On a Positive Note lets look at what we have here. The MSRP is $1020 from what I can tell. So one should be able to pick one up well under that.
You will then have a Handgun Chassis System complete with detachable magazine, and compatible with all the available AR15 M-Loc Accessories. Which include the Magpul Bipod and Magpul Tripod Adapter. While I did not find any bolt on accessory to make the forend more sand bag friendly I am sure one can be fabricated using a bolt on adapter for attachment. You will also have a Handgun 700 Action with either a 223 or 308 bolt size.
The Trigger will need upgraded to something like a Jewel, Timney, etc.
A barrel will also be needed in your choice of lengths and chamberings. This could be as cheap as a take off barrel to a full custom.
I think we should keep an open mind. This might be a great start on a custom build. You will end up with probably the same money or more in a donor XP or Striker to get an action and stock. I am not all that impressed with most of the factory stocks on either of them, with an exception or two.
While my initial impression of the Remington Chassis System is Ugly. However I am reasonably sure that I can make it work well with a little tweaking.
We will need someone to start a build on one to see what can be done with the design. A 15-16 inch barrel in 22-250 / 6 Creedmoor / 260 Rem / 6.5 Creedmoor / 7-08 / 308 / 338 / or a 284 bases round, and Add a Good adjustable trigger. A Magpul Bipod and a forend plate for sand bag use and it should work just fine.

That's kind of what I was thinking. Honestly, being based on the common Model 700 action and having a lot of AR-15 parts would make it highly customizable. Wonder how much such a build would cost? Probably more than I can afford at the moment.
Got to thinking about it the other day. I'd probably get as heavy of a 15" barrel as would fit in the shroud without touching it, swap the bolt out, make it a 270 WSM, add a good brake. If that's not possible, make it a 6.5-284.

IF YOU ARE GOING TO CUSTOMIZE IT FOR HUNTING, WILL YOU STICK WITH A 10 ROUND MAGAZINE? ARE 3 ROUND MAGS AVAILABLE?

45MAN Good question, that probably needs researched. Looks like the Magazine is a Magpul in the AICS configuration. This is a good thing as the AICS style is the most popular bolt action detachable magazine. In the 308 Rem 700CP Pistol the Magpul MAG549 Magazine should work with about all of the 308 family of cartridges. This is a 5 round Magazine. Chance it will not feed any of the Fat Short Magnums. It should work with any 308 size case from the 22-250 thru the 358.
I am sure that the 223 and 300 BO version uses the Magpul AR15 Magazine and probably any other AR15 Mag.
Lets hope that Mark gets a 308 version. I have AICS 308 Magazines to check the fit.

Not all bird dogs are pretty either. A 7.5T 243 Winchester, 6XC, or 6 Creed would work great in that set-up. I am glad you were able to actually experience for yourself, making hits at distances further than you thought you could at WY-SHOT. E

I would recommend staying with true short action cartridges, but by all means, in the end get what you want.
