I know from some previous threads, some of you all have and enjoy 10mm revolvers. And I am just always happy to see more options in revolvers.

"Smith & Wesson has reintroduced its Model 610 revolver, chambered in 10 mm Auto. Built on the Smith & Wesson N-frame, the 610 is available with either a four or a six-and-a-half inch barrel.

?With the recent increase in popularity of the 10mm Auto cartridge, we felt it important to offer a 10 mm revolver for personal protection and handgun hunting." said Jan Mladek, general manager of Smith & Wesson and M&P. He continued, "The N-frame revolver has long been a staple in big-bore revolvers, and the 10 mm is a natural caliber addition to the line.?

I have had mine since the early 1990's. Cheap to shoot with 40 S&W ammo. Plenty of knock down with Full Power 10mm ammo.

I discovered that most 10mm ammo has been watered down for years. Probably so that Delta Elites, and 10 Series S&W's were not damaged firing a steady diet of full power ammo. Chronographing Remington ammo I discovered that the 155 HP loads were slower in 10mm than in 40 S&W. I would call that a very good example of watered down 10mm ammo. Most of the offerings that I tested years ago have been dropped from production over the years.

With Ruger bringing out a 10mm revolver, S&W must have felt it was time to bring the 610 back into production again.

Today I would have to do some serious thinking on which way to go between a Super RedHawk 10mm and a S&W 610. I have several S&W revolvers to include a 686, a 610, and a 625. I also have a couple GP100's and a couple Super RedHawks in 480. It would be a pretty close call between the two choices. How much over book loads you were going to go might have an impact on the choice between the two.

Just wondering outloud if that would even be an issue with either. With the 10mm having a very slightly less case capacity than a 357 could you even drive a 10mm above books enough to make an N-frame 610 flinch? I don't know as I don't have experience with a 10mm. Though if you were thinking of boring out to the 10mm magnum wildcat the SRH would be a better option?

This announcement is one of those guns that I know that I don't really NEED, but I still want one. It doesn't fill any gaps or do anything my 357s 44s or 454s do, but logic never stopped me from wanting a gun before so why should it now.

I have been hoping Starline or someone would come up with some 10mm auto-rim, if that were the case, I wouldn't hesitate.

My 625 was bored out to 460 Rolland years ago. I almost never shoot the longer rounds in it.
I have thought over boring the 610 to 10mm Magnum over the years. As I shoot almost totally 40 S&W in it, I never took the plunge to have the cylinder bored.
If I were to start hunting with it, the 10mm Magnum chambering might look a lot better.

Both the N Frame and Super RedHawk will take a lot of punishment. The Ruger would probably stand up to a steady diet of VERY WARM ammo a lot longer without showing a lot of wear. Considering we are talking 10mm and not 44 magnum the N Frame would probably stand a lot of use with hot 10mm without a problem.

I stopped by Mark Hamptons a few days ago to drop off a couple new Handgun Cases. He had a new 6 Inch 610 in the office to write an article on. His test gun was nice. Locked up like you would want it to. The trigger was not bad for factory either. I would have no complaints on quality from my brief look at it.

I've been pondering a 10 mm revolver. I'd most likely go with the Blackhawk. Its safe to say mine would see a 10mm magnum reamer if I did. I'm just not quite a 10mm fan. I've got a 41 magnum and it does all I need for now.

Still, nice guns. Nothing wrong with a n frame 10.
