I'm getting an XP-100 in this cartridge and need quality brass...I've only found that made by RP but would prefer something else. Could I neck up .204 Ruger brass...that's if anyone makes good brass for that? I'll have to neck turn since the chamber/dies are for a tight neck. Thanks.......Dan

dan....i bet the 204 brass could be made into some good 222mag...plus it's more reasonable priced. i'm gonna use the rem 204 ruger cases to make my 6x47 cases. yep.....the 17"+ 6x47 contender barrel(with light fluting) is on order at OTT! i've already sent mike the blank, dies, n dummies.
i did get a tapered expander for my rcbs 6x47 die. that should make it easier. i hadn't really looked at the 204 much, n didn't realize the shoulder on it was a good bit farther forward than the 222mag. now i can place my shoulder where i want...n have a perfect chamber to match.

i just copy/pasted this reply from "go go varmint go".

a feller over yonder turns his 222rem brass necks 60% for 6x47's n seems to like the results with that brass.....but.......
i can get 204 at a local shop easily....n it's cheaper than the 222rem mag, which i'd have to order from midway....if'n they got it in stock.

i think the 204's would work great....but who am i?

Kentucky….no place like home.

I found some old Herters 222 mag brass and its Lapua brass I use in my 222 mag. Kind of pricey. Federal made 6x47 brass also and I have it that I necked down for 222 mag brass. The Federal was made and used in the BR days while the 6x47 was the only way to go in Sporter class. If you can find the Herters it has quite thin necks.

Thanks for the info...all they had was Remington also. I managed to find a brand new 100ct pack of Herter's brass from a good friend of mine though!! I'll use that for my match loads and the RP stuff for my plinking/hunting loads.

Dan, the 5.6 X 50mm is almost identicle to the 222 Mag. The only difference is the shoulder is .118" further ahead. The shoulder angle is the same 23*. I would think that it would be easy to push the shoulder back and trim to lenght.

I see that RWS and Hirtenberger have 5.6 X 50mm cases. There is a rimmed version, so make sure you don't get that. Huntington Reloading Supply has both manufacturers listed, here is the link;
