What is a good jacketed hollow point that will expand at .44 special velocities. I'm thinking maybe some Speer Gold Dot's.

What velocity range are you loading? If loading for a large frame .44 Special such as the Ruger where 240grs are in the 1100 to 1200 fps range the 240XTP is great. If loading for a midframe such as the Taurus 431 and 441 The Speer Gold Dot 210 at 1000fps works. If loading for a Charter Bulldog the 180gr XTP and the Speer 200gr Gold dot work well.

Going to be a Bisley flattop, would like to be in the 900-1000fps range. I think the 210gr Gold Dots are what I'll try first.

I killed a doe at about 35yds and a small buck at 15yds last season using Speer 200 grain HPGDs. The bullets had for 44 Spl. on the box. I've had a few boxes of these for a long time so they might be hard to find. They were loaded to approx. 850 to 875fps with 700X, WLP primers, and Starline brass. The bullets were recovered under the skin on the off side of both deer and expanded perfectly. I was shooting a S&W 629 with four inch barrel and using .44Spl. brass.

The Bisley is a shooting machine. They love cast bullets too.

I shoot a lot of the polly coated Acme bullets and think they are great. Although I have not hunted with them at all, some of their SWC look like they should work. They have a pretty good size meplat.

I would like to try the powder coated bullets but would prefer a hollow point, the largest critter I hunt is deer and want something that dumps it's energy fast. I have yet to find anyone that offers a PC hollow point.

A super bullet, if you can find them , is the old Speer half jacket HP. I have them in .41 and .44. Lots of damage.
I also had good luck with Rem. 240 gr. HPs. Soft with lots of damage.
