I don't have any experience with handguns and hogs but I can attest to their toughness. I have only shot one and he was a monster, weighing 750lbs on the hoof. I shot him quartering away at 70 yards with a 458 lott generating right around 6500ftlbs of muzzle energy with a 500 grain hornady soft point. the bullet took both lungs and dropped him in his tracks but to my surprise there was no exit wound. I found the bullet in the offside hide. I don't know that this helps you any except that if it is a big hog hit him right and maybe consider a hard cast bullet.
(as a side note it took 3 of us to carry the head and cape into the taxidermist.)
