Since my upcoming elk hunt is probably a once in a lifetime tag, I decided to try a scope on my 460 for this hunt. Ordered the Burris 2-7X32 and mounted it this week. Took it out yesterday and initially loved it. Very clear optics.
But...anything past about 4.5 power and the tunnel vision gets ridiculous. As in 'why the heck did I just spend $300 on this'? It can be cured by treating it like a rifle scope, but that seems a bit counterintuitive in a hunting situation. Anyone else have this experience?
Regardless, I put an old tried and true Bushnell Trophy on it last night and will see how it does over the coming weeks.

Set the burris to the power you're most likely to use, then set the eye relief to that power. By doing this, it will not be as bad if you crank it up - just move the scope in a little for the higher powers.
It takes 43 muscles to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger squeeze.

Thanks for the reply Kim. I actually did play with this before scrapping it last night. The problem here is that I'm trying to mount it on a Smith PC with the integrated mounting system. This is already a few inches more 'forward' than mounting a scope back over the traditional area.
My Bushnell Trophy (which was less expensive), does not have this problem at all. Hard for me to understand how a company like Burris hasn't figured this out. I just hope the Trophy holds up to the 460 recoil. I really don't think it will be a problem since this is the 10.5" PC with brake, and is very heavy. Recoil isn't bad at all with this gun.
Thanks again.

My rifle and pistol scopes have always been fixed 4X. It?s simple and has always been adequate for my use. That said, I would like to try a variable with higher power on my Contender to see if it works, but it?s hard to spend the cash, as you stated, when used Burris and Leupold 4X?s can be found for around $100 on occasion.

The eye relief drops off as the power goes up. How far forward is the scope mounted??
If it jams force it! If it breaks it needed replacing anyway.

Like KRal states, playing with the eyepiece focus and setting it up on the power you feel you?ll most likely use is the easiest way. My 2-7x is set for use on 4x, and occasionally will get cranked down, but I?ve never used it higher. Had they made a fixed 4x I?d have gone with it. Having it set further forward does make it a bit more of a pain, though.

Keep adjusting the eyepiece Randy, you'll get it right. The Bushnell Trophy and Elite were the only handgun scopes that didn't loose eye relief as you went up in power. I have Burris variables, you'll figure it out, but in the mean time, add another ring on the Trophy, and see how it holds up

Burris is simply not in tune with handgunners. Thank goodness for their 3-12 Blex which makes reasonably long range shooting possible. I've/called them several times to upgrade the 3-12-"no market". They have some great reticles for rifle scopes that would make shots past 500 yd. very possible, BUT they won't put them in the 3-12X. Randy, I have a 2-7X Burris on a Taurus Raging Bull .41 Mag. I purposely killed groundhogs this year on each power. I did 3 from 94-98 yds. on 7X. Yes, the field of view is small, but like any new scope you use, you have to get used to it. Shoot it a bunch now at not just paper, but can, jar lids, milk jugs at long distance. Bet you'll be ready for your hunt. I hope the Burris holds up on you .460. Might want to try to find a used Bushnell Elite or old Simmons 2-7X. I know they'll hold up. Had them on my .475 L, .500 Mag., and .416 Taylor for at least 7 years. Never a problem. Good luck.
