Local club in Lawrenceburg Ky. held there last silhouette match of the year today. My son was tied up with the end of the year state 4 H matches so I was running alone today. He's a coach and his daughter still competes. Managed to shoot a 40 in big bore U A S and a 39 [DAMN TURKEY] in .22 U A S, Unlimited any sight. One of those days when all the stars and planets aligned and a blind hog found a COUPLE of acorns.

"ADAPT OR DIE". I USE ALL CAPS, NOT BECAUSE I AM YELLING, BUT BECAUSE IT IS AN OLD HABIT FROM MY ARMY DAYS, PLUS IT IS EASIER TO TYPE AND READ.

Congratulations on your fine scores! Those turkeys are the worst.
I would like to see more details on the guns, optics, and loads you used in competition. I often use my hunting guns and full power ammo in my entries for some useful off season practice.

I use the same load year round in the .308 Striker with a 2.5x8 Weaver handgun scope. A 165 gr Sierra,or Speer sp, with 43 gr of imr 4895 and a fed match primer. The Sierra is only slightly more accurate but the Speer is considerably cheaper, both are very accurate. With the .22 it's a TC 14 in. Contender and Ely primed Aguila 40 gr copper plated solids with a Bushnell Elite 2x6 scope. I love silhouette as the time constraints and no artificial rests add pressure the same as hunting does. If you love to shoot and who doesn't on this site you owe it to your self to try it at least once. You can get addicted to the RING OF STEEL!!!!!!!!!!!!

We had our last IHMSA Big Bore Match on Saturday in Lincolnton GA.
Our last Field Pistol Match for 2019 is this coming SAT in Gainesville GA..
Matthew is quite modest with his marksmanship. l witnessed him
shoot a ''PERFECT 40'' on his very 'FIRST' IHMSA BIG BORE UAS MATCH.
I think he did it with his favourite Deer Gun too. Twas a
scoped TC CONTENDER in 30-30 with WALMART Ammo.. He also shot
from a 'hunting position'... NOT the modified Creedmore or prone position
used by virtually ALL UAS shooters... He shot from an unsupported
seated position using his knees to brace the gun... Like a hunter
would use sitting on the ground with his back to a tree... Without the tree.
l'm 73 and been shooting IHMSA since it began back in the 70s.
l have NEVER seen anyone shoot a 'PERFECT 40' their first match!!

40's are tough, and to do it on your first time shooting silhouette tougher yet. One of the guys we shoot with has a few over the years with his Freedom arms .44 mag with open sights and cast bullets. That's a whole nother layer of tough with changing conditions of light and wind AND OPEN SIGHTS. Its a fun sport with a class for everyone ,try it you'll like it.
