I've gotten a reputation as a groundhog freak. I started hunting them with handguns in the mid 60s and do it 100% with them now. The past few years I relied on my long range single shots and Quiet Gun (suppressed Ruger MkIII). My revolvers were getting ignored and dusty. Time for a change this year.
I acquired a .44 Anaconda this year for a fairly reasonable price. It replaced the 2 that burned in my house fire. It needed introduced to my world.
The sucker is accurate with the UltraDot that came with it. All head and neck shots at 40,43,52,56, and 62 yds. including this one at our local airport.
My FA .454 was feeling a little left out after taking 36 turkeys and little else. It's a 1 1/2" gun with the Bushnell Elite 2-6 scope.
It did 'hogs at 24,46,52,57,61,81, and this one at 58 yds. offhand from the dead tree in the background. Accurate indeed.
Feeling left out was my "inaccurate" Taurus Raging Bull .41 Mag. I put a 2-7 Burris on it to see how good it really was. It shoots individual bullets accurately, just not at the same POA. It really likes the old Speer 200 gr. half jacket HP.
It did 'hogs at 57,59,67,71,78,94,94,97, and this one at 98 yds. at the airport. Not bad for an ol' Taurus.
Much of my hunting is close to homes on farms, so I need to be quiet, thus my Quiet Gun. Called this one out with my groundhog whistle I developed. It works.
This and the other 88 'hogs I took with this gun never stood a chance. I only use Rem. 38 gr. subsonics. Highly accurate in my gun. The longest this year was 94 yds., not bad for a sub .22 round.
I've been so intense with my 'hog hunting that the numbers are decreasing. The last time I took 300 in a year was 2010. I got some new farms this year and hunted the old ones a little more intensely, so...ta-da
I even went retro with my .223 Contender. My final total this year was 312. Lifetime total is 13,666. My #1 gun is my .22-250 XPs with 1586 kills. My #1 revolver is .454 with 844 kills with my .44s a close second at 821 kills. My Quiet gun is making itself "heard" with 359 kills in the short period I've had it.
It's been a good year. Hoping for more. Groundhog freak, indeed.
